2400 SAT/solid gpa/ ecs? Pretty likely all the schools will accept you

thanks man,

bump

Yep, anywhere.

You won’t get into Penn where only 2% were not in the top 10% of their high school classes but I think you’ll get into Stern. If you applied to ILR at Corrnell it’s not out of the question, but A & S will be.

would i have a chance if i wrote some great essays and took some more sat 2s?

You have extremely strong stats (GPA, standardized test scores) and excellent EC’s, so I think you would make it into the “possible” pile of international applicants. The major concern would be how to distinguish yourself from that group through your essays in a manner that demonstrates your passion behind those accomplishments. A predictable essay, e.g. about how an individual musician contributes to the overall sound of an orchestra and how that relates to life in general IS PROBABLY NOT going to get you into the schools you’ve listed. You need to find the song behind the technical notes and then I think you have a great chance of getting into the schools you have listed.

I normally do not do chance threads, but this one caught my eye because there seem to be some misconception here. Most top tier schools weight GPA more than SATs (they would like both). When SAT scores are much higher than GPA, many adcoms would consider the applicant didn’t apply him/herself enough in school. Strong ECs and essays will also not compensate for weak GPA.

I would say Cornell and Penn are probably very unlikely, with a chance at NYU. Have some matches if you are very set on studying in the US. Of course, look at your school’s naviance to get a better sense of your chance. Adcoms will compare you with applicants from your school and region.

The numbers are very impressive. Your application will indeed be attracting the additional attention during the course of evaluation of your profile. However, it is true that there will be many with similar stats and profile for UPenn. In terms of predictability of your admission chances, NYU Stern and Cornell seem to be very much possible!

the average for nyu stern is around a 3.6 2200 from my school. also, I am also applying to CMU, berkeley, northwestern and boston college. What do you think my chances are at those schools?

and does anyone know how much submitting a music supp helps

It certainly helps if those reviewing it deem you exceptional. If not, it doesn’t help and can hurt. The rule of thumb is to have any arts supplement reviewed by objective professionals before deciding whether to send.
