I'm thinking of applying on either Cinema Studies or Film production. I wrote essay on the cinema of Max Ophuls and contemporary Paul Thomas Anderson. I also made a brilliant short film that's in the calibre of pt anderson's the dirk digger story and wes anderson's hotel chevalier. I'm a complete genius on film. I've been watching pt anderson since i was 12 and i've seen most of criterion collection films.

I'm studying in Africa so I heard that was a big advantage.

Other schools looking for:
University of Texas
USC film school
NYU College of Arts and Science
However my biggest goal is going to Harvard. Does anyone think if i get a perfect score on SAT and have the most brilliant film application on earth, i might have a chance for Harvard film school?

Well you knowledge of film sounds excellent. The essay sounds like it would be a good one although I can’t know without looking at it. You SAT is good. The gpa for your last two years is good but what the hell happened your first two years? That will bring your composite down and colleges won’t look favorably on a bad first year. Also, your extracurriculars are spotty. One year of this, and two years of that looks suspicious. But, the most important one for you is the film club and if you were co-founder of that, it will look great.

I say you have a good shot at NYU because of the upward trend in grades, good SAT score, film club, and other ec’s (even though they are inconsistent). I wouldn’t give Harvard too much thought. Sorry

Frankly Harvard not a chance:P i mean like not at ALL. Are you studying IN Africa (an international school in Africa) or are you AFRICAN? That’s a big difference. though if it’s the former those grades in an African international school are still pretty incredible. heard those suck. my history teacher taught in Zambia (or was it Namibia) for a few years and he says there teachers have to teach three different subjects and there is ONE actual road in the entire city

watch out for sounding like you lack humility, already you sound a bit bragging in “brilliant short film that’s in the calibre of pt anderson’s” i know this is a chance forum but just trying to help… you never want to say that you think you match the brilliance of an already established artist… i’m not saying your pieces are not brilliant, what do i know
but be cautious

ECs look good, but GPA a bit worrying, and you have to keep in mind the NYU Tisch film program is ranked #1 in the country and your portfolio has to be STELLAR. lots of people take gap years just to travel and film to add up on their portfolios. maybe you want to consider this?

USC also a reach if your portfolio is meh, Texas better chance.

Thnx for the positive thoughts i’ll nail down nyu by a stellar portfolio. and yes i agree that harvard would be impossible and i don’t wanna end up like daren aronsfky either so thank you.
