SAT-taken June 2

I am def going to take it again in oct.
A lot of volunteer hours, leadership positions, ROTC and sports.
I got a CNA license and certified in First aid/CPR and soon an EMT license.
I attended RYLA (rotary youth leadership awards) as well as Girls State. I have won nationals for debate and prepared speaking. I plan on majoring in IR and going into foreign service. I speak 3 languages fluently nd first gen. to go to college. My bro is moving to texas soon and I really do not want to go to school in jersey. I know it doesnt look 2 good right now but what can i do to improve? Im deciding on whether to apply ED or not. I checked out the website and got pamphlets in the mail and i really like the school. so any feedback is much appreciated. thanks guys

bump................

well you know, speaking 3 languages is great but how about reading and writing? If you can score pretty well in the SAT IIs take them.

GPA looks good if you're taking the toughest courses available. I'm not saying it's special or anything but enough to get you in. If you wanna be on the safe side, get it up to 3.7 at least.

SATs, well, practice with the blue book over the summer.

As for your activities, I need more details in order to be able to tell you anything. I mean, what sports? How many hours do you spend? Varsity? JV? What are your leadership positions?

Locationally, Rice wants people from far away so you have the advantage.

btw which grade are you in?

It's a private school, so OOS or IS doesnt matter.

Rice gets too many apps from IS compared to OOS so I'd think it would be an advantage if you're OOS. They're still trying to raise their national recognition. Their reputation isn't as good in say, the Northeast as it is in Texas. Get what I mean?

But it might just be superstition. I know it's true for internationals in Asia and Latin America though

There's even "diversity scholarships"

Your GPA and ECs look pretty good, but honestly, I don't think you can get in unless you really raise that SAT score. Also, you might try taking the ACT (or take a practice ACT to see if you should take the real one). Some people do a lot better on the ACT than the SAT. Once you have your scores raised, my only advice is just let your personality show through your application. Write great essays, get good recommendations, etc.
As far as whether or not to apply ED... visit the campus and make sure it's the place you want to spend the next 4 years of your life. Also make sure, make sure, make sure you and your family can afford it! Rice is known to be just as generous financially with ED admitees as RD admitees, but if you get in you're obligated to attend, regardless of whether you got enough financial aid.

koker, you are right. It is most definitely easier to get in from OOS than IS.

i play varsity soccer...and intramural tennis...im VP of student council and state VP of HOSA....academic team captain for ROTC...im a senior now and i plan on majoring in IR or political science...and maybe pre law...but the 2 other languages i know are hindi and bengali...i can read but cant write and i doubt they have SATs for them...does rice require subject tests?
thanks guys for the feedback
