for my personal essay i am planning on writing about my experiences of traveling in everyday from Indiana to Chicago for school.

My daughters school does not rank. It did not prevent her from gaining acceptance for the fall. Your GPA is a little higher. Barely. She had a 27 act. It depends on many factors. The school you apply to matters. Business, is really hard. Take a shot and good luck

uh i hope youve taken a mroe rigorous courseload in your previous years because 1 ap and 1 honors doesnt seem too much. try to take more in your senior year maybe? iono how your school is but im pretty sure UT looks at the rigor of your courses greatly.

as for your essay. it doesnt matter greatly on what you write about as long as you write what they ask for and that it is written in a way that grabs their attention. i made some of my essays into small stories with narration.

if your still worried about getting in, you can always apply to one of UTs schools that are generally easier to get into for your second choice.

Congratulations on all your accomplishments. I am familiar with your High School and know it is one of the most rigorous in the country. My daughter went to a public high school in New York City which does not rank its students. That being said, they use a code to let Universities know whether a student is in the top ten percent etc. You should be aware of your approximate rank within the school before you apply. Your counselor should give you a ballpark figure. My daughter was lucky enough to be accepted in the College of Communications with a 27 ACT, however requirements for the business school are more stringent.

I’d say it really depends on your major. Business, architecture, and engineering are difficult to get into I think. I’m OOS too, and I’m going to be a freshman this year in architecture. A girl from my school got into UT by applying to be an education major . . . I’ve heard the requirements for OOS applicants are looser in education, and communications. The girl from my school plans to transfer into business, so I guess if nothing else, you could do something similar. Who knows though - you sound like you have a good shot!

nunya, ethnicity absolutely does count. High achieving blacks and Latinos are in high demand and since the Grutter and Gratz cases they are allowed to use race as a factor as long as they don’t use an explicit quota.

New Trier is going to be different because it’s one of the best-regarded public schools in the country, and I have no idea how they will estimate your rank. The other factors look very strong though, so keep up hope!

thanks guys for all your input! i appreciate it alot. to madarchitect. i plan on majoring in education or liberal art so maybe that will help my chances a little if i go with education.

Liberal Arts isn’t difficult to get into in comparison, but being a Hispanic male applying to Education will definitely be looked favorably upon, and New Trier is an outstanding school and will definitely get you multiple looks.

It’s hard to say anyone is safe, because it’s theoretically possible next year that in-state kids will take ALL of the positions if they yield at just a slightly higher rate than normal, but I think you have a very good chance.

dangg, so your pretty much saying that for the fall 2010 admissions process that ut could possibly have no oos kids or just have an even lower amount of oos kids=. haha that makes me even more nervous
