Chance me Please Please Please!

Please chance me for: Cornell EARLY DECISION, Penn State University Park, Carnegie Mellon University, Boston University, Brown University

NOTE:I was really immature and stupid when I started high school, and got so much more smarter as I approached senior year, so maybe the upward trend will help?

Over the summer between sophmore and junior year I became intrested in math/science and during junior year I took Geometry, Trigonometry and self studied Calculus AB at the same time. And I will probably write my essay about a massive change I underwent one summer and changed from being a careless noob to someone who took school seriously.
Thanks any help appreciated!

Congrats on the SAT and GPA improvements. Everything seemed good until I reached your class rank.

What schools are you looking at?

Thankyou
And im looking at these (sorry forgot to mention them in original post lol): Cornell EARLY DECISION, Penn State University Park, Carnegie Mellon University, Boston University, Brown University

The rank will most likely kill you for Cornell and Brown.

Im so stupid :(, if I would have just realized how dumb I was being in 9th grade a bit earlier I would have been in top 10% by junior year :(

What race/ethnicity are you (this is relevant unless you intend to omit that category)?

I am inclined to agree. The practical reality is that students who have such a rank do not gain admittance to the most selective schools unless they have attended ultra-competitive private high schools and/or have a hook (usually both).

I am not intimately familiar with the admissions practices of Penn State, CMU, or BU. However, I imagine that your chances at those schools are more realistic than at Cornell and Brown. CMU, at the very least, will still be very tough to get into, though.

in for PSU and BU

I wouldn’t rule out any of those schools. Your upward trend is really commendable.

will the early decision for Cornell boost my chances by a tiny bit maybe? Possibly enough to overcome my poor rank when combined with my upward trend?

sorry to say it… but your chances for Cornell and Brown seem close to zero.
If I were you, I would consider wider range of schools that might interest you in terms of major, size, or location. I would advise you to apply to more schools, especially more public schools that offer good education at comfortable prices.

You have a strong upward trend and your stats are good - if you look at the Common Data Set for Cornell, they say Rank is impt but everything else SAT, GPA, ECs, Essays, and Recommendatons are more impt.

the epitome of “upward trend.” Lots of colleges will like that

^Not when the culmination of the trend only puts you in the Top 50% of your class. Besides, if a 94.6 GPA is 69/185, there must be a lot of grade inflation at the OP’s school.

And since the schools the OP is applying to all use score choice, there is no point in submitting all three of the SATs. Doing so would suggest an upward trend, but a one-time solid score is preferred over multiple tries.

^^ good. point. I must have skipped over the class rank part.

Cornell requires that ALL SAT scores be sent.

^My mistake then.

Your 2240 is obviously a great score, so you should be relying on that rather than the improvements themselves.

do you think it would be worth it for me to retake? And improve my scores slightly more? The next date I would be able to retake would be October 9.

No, your test scores are definitely not the problem.

You should just focus on keeping up your grades and working on your essays.

There are already quite a qualified chancers here, at least more so than me, and I agree with their viewpoints anyways. But I did a double-take when I read silverturtle’s comment…it is eerily similar to one that redroses posted a while back…

Which comment specifically?
