I’m planning on applying to Brown through the Questbridge program. Here are my stats:

Rank: 2/535

My counselor is trying to say that my ~98% unweighted GPA out of 100 is a 3.85, but I think that’s bull.

ECs

Any ideas? I’m feeling unsure of myself.

Oh, darn. I forgot to mention that I am in a family of 5.

no one is a shoe in at brown but i would say you have really good chances in you convey how Brown is a good fit to you (compared to any of the other ivies)

While Brown and other schools like it really like QuestBridge, I’ve seen plenty of applicants not get in. Some things you will have to address: your interests seem to be in computers or similar? yet your math scores and background/ classes are not on par with what might predict being able to handle those subjects at this level college. (Something that recs, college guidance letter might address. Possibility to improve SAT math score?) Extra-curriculars are weak as listed above. What else do you devote your time to? (are you working a part-time job, active in the community, or just goof off with video games?)
You will also need to figure out “why Brown”? Brown is very interested in knowing that you are a right fit for Brown, and well as why you feel it is right for you.

I just took the ACT to sort of try to show my ability in mathematics, and I’m feeling very confident about my performance on the math section. My school district isn’t exactly “cutting-edge” when it comes to mathematics education; I still average 100% in every math class that I’ve ever had.

I’m not very active in the community due to a few personal issues. My ex-step-father used to lock me in my room daily up until around age 13, and that caused a few social phobias (that I’ve worked through since). By the time I was fully able to attempt to get involved in something, it was too late to become “deeply” involved (just last year was when I was finally able to do it). But, I have since taken my school’s Computer Club, a club which had previously done nothing, and given it yearly activities, scheduled participation in various competitions, and given it some real purpose. In my spare time, I develop online games, but I don’t have much spare time since I have to work all of the time to pay for my tests, clothes, and even food in some instances.

(As to the classes, I’m taking 5 APs this year which include AP Calc, AP Physics, and AP Computer Science; I was only offered the opportunity to take them this year. My district really lacks in terms of offering a rigorous AP curriculum compared to other districts.)
