i see your school doesn’t rank, but if you had to guess, where do you think you fall? because a 91 is low for cornell unless that’s relatively great at your school

djacc10

I’ll be glad to share my thoughts, if you want, but first I’m curious. What do you think your chances are and why?

Do you respond to others chance me threads, and if so, how would you reply to yourself?

Yeah I know my GPA is relatively low, and its not that great for my school either. But Cornell loves my school, so i’d say my chances are medium like around 40/60? not really sure though that’s why I was asking you guys. I hope my SAT2s and SATs could make up for the GPA though since those are relatively solid.

djacc10

Your SAT scores are solidly above average, though not exceptional. Your grades (per your self description) are a little low, though I don’t think they take you out of the game. I don’t think the SATs exactly offset the GPA, but they help.

Normally I’d say that this makes Cornell a reach, but not impossible.

In your case, the awards you have may help a lot. You indicate that you won a statewide competition and finished 9th nationally. This is quite an achievment and must have taken effort. I think it’s the kind of thing that can make a difference

So, overall – maybe average-above average chance of acceptance. Not a lock.

I think arts+sciences might get a lot of kids with your profile and a higher gpa. But your essays/passions for a particular major can get you in. High scores are great but I know they want high (academic) achievement, not just aptitude. Your ec’s are great though! It’s not a terrible reach I think you’re very capable of making it. Good luck!

Thanks zephyr, that’s about what a figured too.
And thanks worried94! I appreciate your guys’ help.

I applied ED to Cornell Engineering and was accepted. I go to a well ranked public high school also in NJ and I’m white. You have a strong application, your scores are around the same as mine were except I took more AP’s than you and I don’t know how your GPA would compare to mine which was a 4.49 on a weighted 5.0 scale last year but this year it should be higher since so far I have all A’s. I’m captain of a varsity sport, participate in lots of extra curricular activities, and I also work as an intern for the NJCBM at Rutgers University. I think you have a decent chance of getting into Cornell, but with any great school like this, it all comes down to who else is applying and how you set yourself apart from thousands of other qualified applicants. Good luck!

Thanks skiracergirl. that actually helps a lot. Idk how the gpa would compare but it sounds like your gpa was pretty good, I’m guessing all a’s and b’s for the most part? and also what school/major did you apply to/for?

bump 10char

Also, what do you think my chances are at the Agriculture and Life Sciences School if I want to apply for Applied Economics and Management major?

Any help would be much appreciated please! Do I have a better shot at applying AEM in the Agr. and Life Sciences or to the College of Arts and Sci? if any shot at all
