TOP SCHOOLS: (these are only my dream schools)
-Penn (LEGACY, and my dad's an interviewer - applying ED)
-UC Berkeley
-NYU Stern
-Emory

What can i do to improve my chances at any of these schools??

Well it’s hard since you show us now GPA or no indication of what type of grades you get. Your EC’s are good, and test scores are pretty decent. Btw what’s “- Gold + Silver + Bronze International Award.”?

Honestly, your EC’s will do you good, and ur dad interviewing u won’t hurt u either. As long as ur GPA’s like 3.8/3.85 UW, u’re fine my friend.

Just don’t mention that the GNP place is ur uncle’s company (obv.), and please if you can please PM how u did those work experience places? I’ve been looking around for stuff like the Hedge fund and esp. the Singapore and bank thing. (please, i request of u).

Other than that, u’ll do fine.

My prediction

Upenn- In because of legacy
UC berkeley - Reject/Accept (UC’s are very random with OOS applicants)
NYU Stern - In
Emory - Waitlist because of Yield Proctection

thanks thet international award is like the UK’s Duke of Edinburgh which includes an intense expedition, lots community hours, creative/skill hours, and physical rec hours. The thing is, i go to a british school in the middle east (U.A.E), so we dont have GPA’s all we have is the IB. Also i think although my dad is an interviewer, he doesnt interview me himself, another alumnus will be interviewing me. For the work experience, i got it mostly through using family friends, and sending out rough copies of my CV.

Anyone else, any advice?

@shaheiruddin

what do you mean by yield protection? and OOS? thanks, i know i sound pretty stupid.

Also, i’m a british national of pakistani origin who lives in dubai(U.A.E). does that make any difference?

No it won’t help u cause that means ur Asian so -_-…
And seriously, nice EC’s, I hope to have something like that.
You meant Penn as in UPenn or Penn State?

as in UPenn and theoretically i can’t write i’m asian because i have no pakistani passport, only a british one and i never go to pakistan. and thanks, we get a lot of oppurtunities for EC stuff :)

does the location you live in make a difference, like is there a quota for the middle-east?

and i don’t know if this makes it slightly more selective, but i intend to apply to Wharton :/

Ok nice…
But having Pakistani roots (not just a passport) means ur Asian basically. Your great x 300 grandfather could’ve been from Asia, but ud still be Asian on the college app.

Though no, nothing special that u reside in Dubai. Wharton’s a little more competitive though. If nething ur stats mayb a bit shy, but u seriously make up for it w. ur awesome work experience n EC’s (seriously bro, I’m really interested in the Singapore shipping and bank thing).
You might want to consider other schools like Stern as well. Not that u hav ne bad schools in the UK either

WAit u already mentioned Stern right…

yeh i did, its in my top 3 preferred schools
yeh im re-doing my SAT1 in june and my SAT IIs in October. If we do a SAT II in November, can we still apply ED and send in the score later?

Do think UC Berkeley is too unattainable, with me being an international applicant etc.?

Yeah the UC’s are moody with foreign applicants…
Your SAT II in lit could use a bump, but honestly, ur SAT’s are pretty much in range. It wouldn’t hurt to perhaps improve it to around 2300 but i wouldn’t worry about it too much. Hopefully u can write some good essays =)

i hope so
yeh i hope i do well on these SAT retakes as well

Nah, you don’t need em neway. Trust me bro, ur in the green. U have legacy, still good test scores, and the best EC’s around. U’ll be fine.

cheers man, thanks for your help where are you looking to apply next year?

Lol next year? Bro, you’ve been getting advice from a freshmen who spends 1-2 hours a day on this website. I know my stuff, don’t doubt that (well, don’t bet on what I or what ne1 says). Plus I’ve listened to my older cousins/siblings talk nothing of college =)

Though I really aim on Cornell, NYU Stern (the business & political economy program), Georgetown, or maybe Northwestern. UofChicago too. Tho I doubt I’ll have the EC’s/stats u do ~_-

haha sorry my bad, but you seem to know alot! Ahh right sounds awesome, good luck :)

Lol thanks, and I do don’t I?

One question regarding ur EC’s that I was obsessed with, when u did those internships/jobs, was it some sort of program that u had to apply to or did u just do that cover letter with resume thing?
Then again, u Dubains… phhhew…lol
