I am a junior, and am halfway through my junior year. Naturally, I’ve began to consider colleges.
I would appreciate it if you could chance me for the following schools. I’ll try to chance you back, though I may not know much.
GPA (9-12): 4.24 (W), 3.76 (UW)
GPA (10-12): 4.45 (W), 3.73 (UW)
ACT: 35 C
I know my unweighted GPA is quite low, so I am doing my best to bring it up by the end of my junior year.
I have taken the most rigorous courseload my school offers. By the end of my junior year I’ll have completed 11 AP’s and 4 honors (not weighted at our school).
I’m not including my extracurriculars because they’re very scattered, but some of things I do include vocal music, hospital volunteering, science olympiad, etc.
Awards:
- AP Scholar with Honor
- National AP Scholar (hopefully this year)
- National Merit Semifinalist (99% sure)
Please chance me for the following schools:
Duke (ED)
Cornell (ED)
UCSD
UCLA
UCI
UCD
UCSB
(in-state for the UC’s btw)
On a side note as well, I’ve been getting increasingly anxious over the past few months. I’m not able to sleep/do anything because I’m convinced that I’m extremely unintelligent and I won’t be able to go to any college. I guess I kind of just need some reassurance, but at the same time please be brutally honest with me and tell me if I don’t have a chance at any of the schools listed.
I’m not trying to brag/fish for compliments or anything, I honestly just feel really incompetent.
Thanks for the help everyone.
At the end of Junior year calculate your UC GPA with this link: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
The Roger hub GPA calculator is your capped weighted UC GPA. UCLA/UCB will also use uncapped weighted which is more than 8 semesters of honors classes 10-11th grade. You can look up which HS courses are approved Honors classes at this link: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/all
You can only apply to 1 school ED so you need to choose. Remember ED is binding, so if you want to compare financial aid packages, ED is not the way to go. Also EC’s are going to be more important for Duke and Cornell, since this is what will set you apart from the rest of the applicants, so you need to show some kind of focus on an area of interest.
Your ACT is very competitive and if your UC GPA is above 4.0, you stand a good chance at all the UC’s on your list.
Good Luck.
Thank you very much @Gumbymom
As much as you say you aren’t fishing for compliments you can’t tell me that with your stats you honestly think you’re unintelligent. There are kids out there (me included) who would be so happy to have a 3.7+ GPA and a 35 on the ACT. If you really were concerned about not getting in anywhere you would have safeties listed instead of just competitive schools even if you are in state for them. You say you feel incompetent but do you realize how other less qualified students will feel about themselves if you call yourself incompetent? The answer is a million times worse. I understand that you might feel stressed and anxious about college that’s completely normal, but you have a great stats and I think you know that. Saying you won’t be able to get into any college is absolutely ludicrous. There are plenty of schools that would want a student with a 35 on the ACT and a 3.75 UW GPA. I really think you need to take some time and think about how others who read your threads might feel. For me personally as a less qualified candidate than you it makes me feel awful. I hope you don’t come off this way to colleges. Like I said I know how stressful this time can be so maybe that’s it, but you are a great candidate and while you may not get into Duke or Cornell I can assure you that you will get into a great school. You’ve got a good shot at all the schools you listed. Stop putting yourself down and others with you. Because I don’t know you I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe this is just stress, but you need some perspective and to stop fishing for compliments. You will get into a great school. You are not unintelligent and you know that. I wish you the best and I hope this comment makes you take a step back and think for a minute.
I disagree with the post above, you want to get into two of the best schools our nation has to offer, where plenty of over qualified/all but flawless students get rejected every year. You have every right to be nervous and self critical, and if people feel uncomfortable or “unintelligent” because of your stats, they should’ve worked harder in high school. Do I think you’re a little hard on yourself? Sure. I don’t at all believe you’re fishing for compliments as those kinds of posts are worded very, very differently. You will be admitted to every UC you apply, and I’d say a coin flip at Duke. Dont be too hard on yourself.
@willharry02563 I’m not fishing for compliments. In fact, if you’ve been on this website for long enough you would know that there are tons of people who are even more qualified than I am and are still stressing and think they are incompetent. I’m sorry if I offended you or made you feel bad, but I was merely stating my thoughts and asking for advice.
@gatorgirllala That’s exactly how I see it. Thank you for understanding that I’m not fishing for compliments, because I am not that type of person. And thanks so much for the nice words, best of luck to you too
