Chance me please? (Stanford, Rice, etc.)

First of all, let me begin by saying that these are not the only schools I will apply to. I have many more that I am sure I will get into and would be happy to go to.

My stretch schools are: Stanford, Rice, Duke, Wash U, and Northwestern
I want to go into engineering by the way SCHOOL:
4.0 gpa
6 Honors classes freshman to sophomore year and will have 4 AP classes taken plus college Spanish by end of senior year
Also, the way my school is structured it is nearly impossible to take AP classes freshman or sophomore year
AP us history
AP calculus
AP physics
AP government and politics
University of Washington Spanish
National Honor Society
Made it to DECA state conference for (likely will) 4 years in a row
34 ACT composite, 34 reading, 36 math, 33 English, 32 science, 10/12 on essay
SAT not as good. 2170, 800 on math, 660 on CR, 710 on writing with 10 on essay
I could get good recommendation letters and likely write a fantastic essay
Have won Student of the Quarter awards at school
Member of Link Crew at school, which helps make incoming freshman feel welcome and become accustomed to high school
Played in high school band 1 year as 1st chair sax
I love history and science btw

Activities:
Played soccer for 12 years
Played varsity golf 2 years and high school (non varsity) 2 years
Probably about 200 hours of community service
I am also beginning to volunteer to help wounded veterans and other veteran related com service

BOY SCOUTS:
Made Eagle Scout Rank at age 15
Was elected to lead a 10 person crew on a 10 day backpacking expedition in New Mexico
This summer I will the highly acclaimed Rayado Trek is Scouting (one of biggest challenges in scouting), it is 200 miles long, 20 days, and renowned for the character it builds
Served many leadership positions. Currently, even though I am an eagle, I am the troop guide. This means I run the new-scout patrol and help them learn about and get acclimated to scouting, and try to get them to love scouts as much as I do
Will be highly involved in Boy Scouts until no longer allowed to be active at age 18
I have some incredible stories of events that have happened to me while backpacking and could probably write a fantastic essay based on them
ALSO: I am big into shooting sports, fishing, and hunting. I taught myself how to do all of these activities and have formed my own connections with people to get involved. Basically I've taught myself everything I have learned and probably spent hundreds of hours learning the ins and outs
Overall, I spend most of my free time doing outdoor activities

Summer Activities:
Rayado - 3 week, 200 mile backpacking trek with random kids
50 mile backpacking trip along Washington coast (1 week)
3 day canoe trip
Job at either a golf course or with the Youth Conservation Corps building trails and working on conservation projects

Ethnicity: white
Religion: Jewish
Completely Deaf in one ear which has definitely disadvantaged me and given me some issues, maybe I could write a good essay on this fact

Desired career field: Will apply to college of engineering. Really I want to work for an outdoor company and design the next generation of outdoor gear, or for a gun/ammo company and be a ballistic engineer, or aerospace working on cool projects

From greater Seattle area of Washington

Income bracket: About $150,000 I think, and have a brother in college

Hobbies: I love taking things apart, putting them back together, and creating new devices (even if the fail lol).

Interviews: I plan on doing whatever interviews I can get, because I am an excellent interviewer

Volunteer: I do volunteer work because of Scouts and Honor society of course. By application time, ill probably have 200-300 hours. one thing I am looking into is volunteering at the local VA hospital. Scouting has kind of helped me build a special respect for veterans

All in all, I feel like there's one specific strength I have. Unlike many kids, I feel that I actually do the things I do because I am passionate about them, not to impress people.

I know that it's kind of a crap shoot no matter what, but are my odds of admission to these schools any good? Is there anything I could do to further improve my chances? Also, what do you think my chances are of acceptance to any of these schools?

Yeah, you will be a strong applicant to be admitted. Best of luck.

Thank you for the response!

Any other feedback? It is much appreciated!

Your grades and test scores seem great, but I don’t know how colleges will interpret your ECs. You don’t really have any awards nor have you won any big competitions. Being an eagle scout is great and will help you in admissions, but it looks like that really all you can show. I’m sure you can write some great essays about your experiences, but I just don’t know if colleges will see your achievement. Good luck, though! Be sure to spend a long time on your essays.

You don’t really need awards or big competitions @BBanks. I got into Rice and 3 Ivy league schools without any…

@noel597‌ if you didn’t have any major awards, then what did you do? and I think @BBanks‌ meant not just awards but major achievements too… gernuinely curious as to how you got into those places without high achievements/awards!

Some of my major involvement. I was heavily involved in music ( first chair in school band and multiple, selective music groups and even a professional group, with some music awards-- though not national awards), initiated a movement at my school to raise awareness of mental illness (we then presented to many schools throughout my area about bullying and the stigma of mental illness; we planned various events at school as well); I interned as a social-networking company the summer before my senior year and completed my final project (a relatively complex app); I volunteered throughout high school at TWO organizations and gained leadership positions at both organizations).; I was the head of my community’s relay for life event which featured 500 participants, 46 teams, and raised 60,000 dollars in 24 hours.
This is some of the things I did. I was also president of 3 clubs (one related to relay for life, the other to the mental health initiative, and the other a world language in which we planned cultural events and tutored the language and immersed ourself in the culture)…

I didn’t have any “academic” activities, and I didn’t get any awards (other than musician of the year at my schools for 4 years and other related awards).

You can do what you love and be successful. You don’t need to compete.

@Ianflan

You should have a great chance at any of the schools you listed, especially Rice, Duke, and Wash U (you’ll probably get into 2/3 of them)! Stanford and Northwestern are really competitive, but your consistent EC involvement with Boy Scouts, volunteering, and soccer should really help you when paired with your grades and challenging courses. I think you have a good chance at getting into either Stanford or Northwestern. Also, you should consider applying Early Admission if there’s one school that you’re really committed to attending, because admissions rates for EA applicants are way higher.

@lanflan you can scroll up to see my reply! sorry

@noel597‌ wow, that’s really impressive! You definitely deserve to be going to top schools!

That being said, you still had VERY high leves of achievement in MULTIPLE extracurriculars, and I think OP can definitely benefit with trying to mach that

thanks for the reply!

@noel597 But you see, you had something to show for your passion for music as well as multiple other great ECs. All that the OP has to show is his Eagle Scout rank. I don’t see why you’re trying to compare the two of you, you were obviously much more qualified than he is.

Ok thanks for the feedback. With my stats do you guys think i would have a good chance at getting much scholarship money from state schools like Umich, UT, or smaller private schools like Santa Clara or LMU?

First of all, don’t group UMich with SC or LMU. Completely different standard. UMich is a match for you. Those other schools you have listed, though, you’d have a great chance at merit $$$!

Thank you for the input! Also, I wasn’t really trying to group them together
