Chance me? Please? Thank you :)

Hi! I'm new to the College Confidential forums. I'm so glad I finally found it. This website is absolutely amazing! Anyway, I'm really worried about getting accepted to my top schools. Would anyone be willing to chance me for Tulane and University of Miami? I would really appreciate it! Here's my information:

I'm a junior at a small public high school in North Carolina. I'm currently 5th in a class of 165, but I'll probably be 3rd at the end of this semester. My unweighted GPA is 3.9, and my weighted GPA is 4.4. I've had high A's in all of my classes except for two of them. I made a 93 in French I and a 84 in French II (I know, I was horrified). All of my other classes have been in the 96-100 range. Also, I took Algebra I in 8th grade.

Honors English I
Honors World History
Honors Geometry
Honors Earth Science
Health/PE
Career Management
Digital Communications Systems
Marching Band/Concert Band
Honors English II
Honors Civics and Economics
Honors Algebra II
Honors Biology
Computer Applications
Honors Pre-Calculus

I made high 4's on all of the state EOCs. I also made a perfect score on the NC State Writing Test. Right now, I am taking:

AP Language and Composition
AP US History
Honors Anatomy and Physiology
Honors Chemistry
Allied Health

I'm hopefully going to have high A's in those classes at the end of the semester. Next year, I'm planning to take:

AP Literature and Composition
AP Government and Politics
AP Calculus
Honors Physics
Allied Health II (Clinical)

I've only taken the SAT once, and my score was 1830. I'm taking it again in May, and I really hope to improve my scores by about 100 points if possible. I didn't do so hot on the math portion. My essays are great, but I'm afraid my extra-curriculars are weak.

Marching Band (9th and 10th)
Concert Band (9th and 10th)
Pep Band (9th and 10th)
(trumper, French horn, mellophone, piano)
Band Student Leadership Council-President (9th and 10th)
Girl Scouts of America- GS Leadership Award and Silver Award (9th and 10th)
Active member of my church and church youth group
Member of my school's National Honor Society chapter
Junior Marshal (as of May 2010)
Winner of several school awards for highest average: Honors English I, Honors World History, Digital Communications Systems, Career Management, Honors English II, Honors Civics and Economics, Computer Applications

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate this! Also, if there are any schools that you think would be a good fit for me, please let me know. I was thinking about Boston U, but it's really cold up there. I hope I provided enough information. Not too much or too little? I'm new to this. Can you tell lol?

Btw, Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! :D

I forgot to add that I'm going to North Carolina Governor's School this summer! I'm so excited!

I’m also on the school quiz bowl team and will be co-captain next year. Please chance me? I really want to have some outside input.

I’m not sure about Tulane, but I think your SAT’s, even going up 100 points, are quite low for U of Miami.

nyc2013 is incorrect. First of all Tulane and Miami are somewhat similar as far as admission difficulty, with Tulane being more selective. Second of all, if you get your SAT up 100 points (which I think is a good goal, obviously the more the better), you should have about an 80%-90% or so chance of getting into Miami based on the rest of your record. For Tulane it would be about 60-70%. If you take the midpoint of the 25-75% ranges for the SAT scores of the last incoming class at each school, Tulane is 1975 and Miami is 1885, so there is still a fair amount of difference. At 1830 you are still within Miami’s 25%-75% range, but just below Tulane’s, which still means they take students with those test scores. But increase it 100 points and you are right in the ranges, upper end for Miami and mid-lower for Tulane. Your EC’s are fine, and obviously your grades and class rank are great.

Good luck!

I’m sorry, fallenchemist is correct, I think I confused UM with another school because I remembered UM as having a 30ish % acceptance rate but I just checked and that’s very wrong. Ignore my earlier post!
