Your interest in politics & service & your achievements in tennis make you look like a good fit for W&L. Do interview on campus, & do your homework beforehand so you can ask some thoughtful questions about things like Mock Con, Bonner, & Nabors. Are you going to play tennis in college?

Am sure you are loathe to take more tests, but have you considered taking the ACT? Many kids whose SAT scores are lower than GPA would lead you to expect find they do better on

Good luck!

I’m looking to play college tennis for W&L as a possible recruit but I already took the ACTs and did terrible on them! My SAT II were good 750 on both history and lit…any pointers on how to show them I want to W&L and why they should pick me over someone with higher test scores?? Thanks!

Get great teacher recs, & consider asking a teacher in whose class you really had to go the extra mile to do well in. Write a stellar essay. Go to any college fairs or admissions rep visits at your HS, & write a note to the W&L alums or reps you meet. W&L website is loaded with info, so use it to become an expert on the school. If there is a prof teaching a class that really interests you, email him/her to make an appointment when you visit campus to interview. Demonstrated interest is very important at W&L.

Great! Ive definitely shown interest as I’ve visited 3 times and I went to an info session with a binder full of everything to know about w&L and the rep told me I was the only person she’s ever seen that knows more than she did about W&L! Also how might I put into my application I’m a descendent of both Robert E Lee and George Washington?

You said in another post that you had a 32 on the ACT. I wouldn’t call that terrible. I’d put the family connection info. in the section of the application where it asks about how you heard about W&L and why you’re interested in attending, but be sure to be accurate…since George Washington didn’t have any children, any descendent connection is technically to Martha Washington, not him. I’d also be careful about not going toooo overboard…you want to show interest, but there’s such a thing as toooo much interest.

Thank you! But I was hoping for around a 35 at least.:frowning: Ill deffinitly keep the family connections to a minimum and ill make sure not to go overboard on my intrest even though i LOVEEEEE W&L so much! Thank you all for such great advice!

My D had a 32 and she’s a Johnson Scholar. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. :)

A 32 on the ACT is considered the equivalent of a 2130 on the SAT. Not at all terrible! And I also know a Johnson scholar with an ACT score of 32.

Also, W&L officially “superscores” – my D had a 32 twice, but W&L says she has a 33 because they take the highest subscores and average them. So, that might help you, too!
