Chance me, please, thanks :)

Hey I’m new here.
I know everyone says you shouldn’t post these but still.
I’m an international school applying to the following schools intending to major in computer science but not sure yet:
Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeely, Princeton, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, UIUC, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Yale

Academics:
-SAT Score: 1500/1600
-SAT Math Level 2: 800/800
-SAT Physics: 790/800
-IB Diploma predicted score: 40/45 (7 in HL Maths)

Activities/extracurriculars: (in order of importance to me)
-interned at 3 different software companies (2 startups and 1 established company)
-work experience at the same established company on a later occasion
-learnt programming alone (mainly web development, have hosted a website which provides resources and aids future IB students)
-was part of a research project (presented at a conference, the write up will be published soon)
-played the guitar and piano since the age of 10
-3 years in the school soccer team, played in various tournaments
-part of the school Drama Club which has produced 3 plays
-part of the school Organisation Team which organised 3 large scale events (a marathon, an Olympics and a futsal competition)
-volunteering in general
-went on an international understanding trip (helped various schools and hospitals in China)
-academic excellence award for grades 9,10

ethnicity: Pakistani (live in Australia)
Financial aid required

Chance me?
Also could you please tell me which school I should apply to early?
Thanks,
Emily

Should I list my ethnicity as Asian or other in the CommonApp?

It’s almost impossible to evaluate you without knowing your GPA. I would put other or not list race, as Asians are not considered URMS, and could potentially hurt your application (which in my eyes is bogus). I’d say you have a decent chance at all of these schools, but there are no guarantees with reach schools.

Harvard - reject
MIT - waitlist
Stanford - reject/ you need REAALY good essays and your EC’s aren’t super strong
UCLA - accept
UC Berkeley - accepted
Princeton - reject most likely

Georgia Tech - accept
UT Austin - accept
UIUC - accept
NYU - accept
Carnegie Mellon - accept
Yale - waitlist/ might get accepted

Chance me back?

Impossible to tell without GPA- the most important part of you application.

Remove UCLA/UCB from your list if you need a good amount financial aid. UC’s offer very little merit and/or need-based financial aid to International applicants. Expect to pay $60K/year to attend. I would run the Net Price calculators on all schools to make sure they are affordable before applying.

@adrinitis Could you tell my why Harvard would likely be a reject (it’s my dream school)? I’ll chance you too (:

Hi!

It looks like you have a solid overall profile. Your SATs, scores, and ECs are pretty impressive, but as several other users mentioned, your GPA is a very important aspect of your application. I’m guessing a 40/45 on IB is pretty good.

I have a few friends who are IB and told me that a score like that would translate to around 3.85 UW GPA. Is that right?

With all that in mind, you have a chance to attend all the schools you mentioned above, but keep in mind that the likes of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Yale, and Princeton are REALLY competitive universities.

You have a few universities which could be automatic acceptances (if your GPA is as good as your SAT scores), such as UT Austin, UIUC, and NYU. But some of the other universities are extremely competitive.

For instance, SAT Averages for the following universities:

Harvard: 1540
MIT: 1520
Princeton: 1540
Yale: 1540

Although your SAT is mind blowing, you’re still “below” their unbelievable average.

Don’t get me wrong, though. You have a very high chance of attending all the universities, but don’t sit back and relax just yet.

Good job and good luck!

Hey, I think that you’re an amazing and qualified candidate and you have great scores. I just believe that you sound like most candidates that apply to Harvard. Theres really nothing that makes you stand out in the application process and I think that you seem like a great candidate but you really need to to stand out in order for Harvard to want to except you.

Thanks! @adrinitis @jinxorchestra
I’m guessing to get in, I’ll need to do really well on my essays then!
