University of Illinois Urbana Champaign:
I will be applying into LAS

Will be majoring in: Biology

Gpa unweighted: 3.39
weighted: 3.45

ACT: 27 (29 eng, 27 math, 27 science, 24 reading)

Class Rank: We dont have one however I do go to the best public school in Illinois so the competition is very high.

Extra: Swim team 3 yrs, volunteered for congressman, at church and at habitat for humanity, debate team 2 yrs.

Junior yr: AP US history (4 on the ap test)
Senior yr: Ap Calc AB, AP Bio, AP Psych

You have a decent chance of getting in. Write some killer essays, and it’ll be set. Worst case, they’ll probably offer you a spot in the Department of General Studies. And if you want to transfer to biology, it tends to be done without much struggle!

Goodluck.

Illinois for an in-state applicant is getting harder and harder. My son who applied last year had higher weighted GPA and ACT 31 was deferred early and then ultimately rejected. His first choice was Engineering (which we knew was a long shot) second choice was General Studies. He was coming from a great high school.

^ Engeneering is much harder to get into then where I am trying to shoot for. Best of luck to your child in the future!

Undergraduate Biology (MCB or IB) attracts a lot of pre-med candidates, and is by no means a calkwalk to get into. It is one of the more selective programs within LAS. You’d have to be considered a slight reach with your GPA and ACT score. Retake the ACT to improve your chances.

If you don’t get in with your intended major (in my sons case engineering) then you are considered for General Studies. He did not get into General Studies with a 31 ACT and a 3.55 so with that information I think you are a slight reach and need to increase you GPA and ACT.
