Also first gen in America is not a hook unfortunately (Im also a first American Gen)
Out of curiosity why did you shadow a doctor if you are interested in Business?
You have some really good awards and an amazing ACT so Penn ED to CAS should be a coin toss
Michigan is a match, but auto admit to Ross I am unsure
Berkeley will be accept (but can you pay full price?)
Duke is rejected (low reach)
UNC CH- will be accepted
NYU Stern will be accepted
Cornell- waitlist (low reach)
UChicago- low reach
CMU is a match

my bad i didnt know

I shadowed a doctor because I was unsure about what I wanted to really do. So I took the risk of trying to gain more experience in other fields. I’m still considering maybe going into the hospital management route which may require some experience in the medical field

That makes sense now. If the colleges don’t require it do not send your SAT.

Yeah I don’t plan on sending it in. I really want to get into UPenn though that’s the ultimate goal. Just curious why would you say Duke would be reject. I thought I’d be a low reach for Duke, UChicago and Cornell with a fair contention for admission. I would say the same about UPenn but I’m really hoping my ED helps me out.

Duke is a low reach but the top colleges have holistic admissions. You have a really good chance though, Great GPA, ACT, and Awards

If you do ED for UPenn you should have a good chance, especially since you aren’t applying for Wharton. Although, you have taken the ACT a lot of times so I’m not sure how that will play out, but your scores are excellent.

I wouldn’t say Duke is a Low Reach for anyone but you are a well qualified candidate OP, have you considered applying for the UPenn M&T program it might be exactly what you are looking for, Management and Tech, you get on degree from Wharton and the other is an Engineering type degree. So you graduate with 2 degrees and I have friends involved with it in the past and they got job offers sophomore year from a range of companies.
Chance Me Back!

You have all of these business ECs and experience, so why would you apply to Stern and Ross but not Wharton?

I know I have business experience but like I said before I’d like to take some classes in other fields as well maybe a few premed prereqs I really enjoy business but I don’t know if that’s 100% the field I want to go into. I know for Ross I’ll have my freshman year to maybe play with that idea. Stern I wanted to apply to keep as an option if I wanted to concentrate on business completely. And I was actually considering maybe the LSM dual degree. From my understanding it’s in life sciences and management correct? Though if I do apply for a dual degree at UPenn I’d apply for CAS as my secondary because of my reasons stated before. Also guys I am very afraid that my ACT won’t be considered that much because I’ve taken it so many times. But it was over a san of close to 2 years with improvement if that means anything.

A lot of people try to transfer into Wharton through an easier faculty like CAS. That’s what your resume seems like to me right now. I have friends who applied for international relations while placing highly in deca, and were active in many business ecs – they were all outright rejected. Your ecs don’t reflect someone who has interest in the sciences or the humanities. If you’re going to apply to upenn, go for Wharton. It just seems suspicious otherwise.

Im just afraid I won’t really get to explore other fields in college if I commit myself down the business path. That’s why I chose to gain experiences in the medical field through shadowing, HOSA, and interning at a clinic. My paid internship is both engineering (comp sci) and marketing. That’s the only reason why I don’t know if Wharton is a good match for me. What do you believe my chances at wharton are and how much room to explore to I have there?

Chances are you might face an outright rejection from CAS. Check out @Harrovian 's stats. I believe he was also rejected because of his strong business ecs.

The funny thing is, it’s okay to not have business concentrated ecs if you are going for Wharton. One of my best friends got into Wharton ed this year, but had a lot political, debate, and mun stuff.

Your chances at Wharton would be decent, but it is extremely extremely hard to get into. In my opinion, you don’t have enough leadership and in-depth ecs. Internships also don’t help very much – it just seems as though you got it through connections and whatnot.

There is lots of room to explore at Wharton. Remember, at penn you can take classes in any faculty. Plus, you can transfer from Wharton to other faculties later on if you really want to.

@HvePassion‌ I see your point. The only question I had looking at my EC’s are that the only thing that pushes me in the business route is the marketing consultancy. I have comp sci and medicine as well so I don’t really see how im THAT geared to business alone. I’m just as qualified with HOSA as with DECA. But your statement about still exploring while at wharton does interest me. For leadership what more do i need? Could you give me an example? I am captain of two sports and probable board of director for DECA and I would think founder of the firm helps. And also could you tell me what you mean about in depth ec’s? thank you so much!

Secretary General of a national mun conference hosting over 600 students

Founder of an online youth political blog

Part of the organizing team for a business conference sponsored by a prestigious university

Founded registered non profit geared towards tutoring underprivileged kids and now has over 100 staff and volunteers

Captain and coach of school debate team

Started a an organization promoting women’s rights

Helping someone notable in researching and publishing a book

These are all ecs that are considered good. They have to show universities that you are on your way to making a change in the world and you have the leadership/passion to do that. As well, you should have dedicated at least three years to every thing on your ec list.

By in depth ecs I mean that you need focus areas. For example, if you are super into marketing, you should have a plethora of activites and awards dedicated to that. Universities aren’t looking for Renaissance men or women, they are looking for people have have a specific talent.

@HvePassion . You don’t necessarily have to be involved in whatever your major is. I say this from experience; I’m going to penn in the fall as a Biological Basis of Behavior major. Really, my only activity related to my major was a school organization I founded to help eliminate the taboo of mental illnesses… and even that doesn’t directly pertain.

I had in depth ec’s, but not by your definition.

Btw OP, taking the ACT that many times doesn’t look good.
