I am an incoming 2nd year in college currently with a 2.9 GPA. I would really like to attend Davis in the Fall 2018 as a bio major. They have discontinued their TAG program for the sciences for Fall 2018 which is extremely unfortunate for me. I have talked to my counselor and they told me to try applying anyways as well as other UCs. I know my chances with UCSD, UCLA, UCB, UCSB, and UCI are low but I have a slight chance at UCR, UCSC, and Merced (which those three are my very last destination).
My stats:
Fall 2016
ARTS 1A: B+
EWRT 1A: A-
PSYCH 1: A-
SPCH 10: A
Winter 2017
INTRO CHEM: B
EWRT 1B: A
ICS 7: A-
PRECAL 1: B-
Spring 2017:
CHEM 1A: B-
STATS: C
PRECAL 2: C
Summer 2017
CHEM 1B: C+
PRECAL 3: C
Overall GPA: 2.90
I anticipate to finish my IGETC by the end of Winter 2017
I know I went downhill recently with my recent grades being C’s, which is my fault and I intend on hopping back to A’s from this point on.
Aside from UCD, what are my chances of getting accepted to the rest of the UCs? Alternatively, should I just stay at my community college for a 3rd year, strive my best, and maximize my GPA (meaning I will have to take ochem and physics and earn A’s!)
Help please!!
You can look up the UC Transfer GPA by campus and major on this link. In general, any GPA below 3.0 will be a difficult admit for all the UC’s other than maybe UC Riverside and UC Merced. I would add some Cal States to your list. Just to give an idea of how you compare:::
UCSC had a GPA admit range of 2.94-3.56 for Ecology and Evolution
UCI had a GPA admit range of 3.12-3.51 for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
UCR had a GPA admit range of 3.18-3.56 for Biology
UCM had a GPA admit range of 3.06-3.53 for Biological Sciences
UCD had a GPA admit range of 3.27-3.76 for Biological Sciences

I would stay another year to bump up your GPA for the best chances.
Like Gumbymom said, below a 3.0 will be a bit difficult for you. I’m transferring to UCD this Fall 2017 with a 3.3GPA and I’m a Poli Sci major. My cousin who’s my age is a bio major and I believe she has a 3.7GPA(?) and got rejected from UCD but somehow got into UCSD which is a little shocking considering UCSD is a bit harder to get into. You’ll honestly never know but if my cousin could get rejected for a GPA like that, there’s a chance you could too because yours is significantly lower. I’m not trying to discourage you from applying because you’ll never know. I honestly thought I’d get rejected from UCD so I was shocked when I got in and my cousin didn’t. But if you REALLY want to go to UCD, then staying another year wouldn’t hurt. It’ll help boost your GPA. I did 3yrs at a CC
They did NOT discontinue TAG for majors in the College of Biological Sciences (https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer/transfer-admission-guarantee/majors). However, you need a 3.20 cumulative GPA and a B- average for your major course groups (calc, gen chem, bio).
@coloneljdog Bio Sci does not fall under natural sciences?
I see it now, I mistook, thank you!
@cctransfergirl No problem! I see where it can be confusing. “Natural Sciences, B.S.” is/was a major at UC Davis until this year (http://naturalsciences.ucdavis.edu/). However, it got discontinued I believe. I totally see how the name of the major is really confusing and sounds like it encompasses all sciences. Good luck!
