I've applied to Michigan State...

Foreword: I know I'm not a shoe-in... I'm trying to be optimistic

GPA - Unweighted - 1.9
ACT - 26

I've had a really low GPA obviously, but a sweet ACT score..

I'm a first-generation American (parents from Europe), I've had 2 part time jobs, and I've started a club in my senior year and my GPA through 5 weeks is about a 3.5
I've really been looking to turn it around...
My father was deported, my mother was laid off, and my mothers income the past 2 years has been $0, we've been evicted, bankrupted, etc. and I believe has affected my GPA as I've always been a really good student..

I spoke to my admissions counselor and I think he likes me (for many reasons) and he knows of my issues.

I applied and wrote 2 STELLAR essays (peer reviewed by 4 people, all of which are in college or graduated... 1 required, 1 additional) about my unfortunate experiences, and even got a letter of recommendation from one of my former teachers who also went to MSU...

What do you think?
