Bump 10char!!

anyone?! just looking for some honest opinions! will try and chance back!

Columbia, unc chapel hill and Berkeley are certainly possibilities but don’t count in them. The others are a pretty good chance.

Thanks supersnakess! Any other opinions? Will try and chance back!

I forgot some classes in 9th and 10th grade.
9th:
-Intro to Business
-Health (required - Sem)
-Forensics (Sem)

10th:
-Principles of Accounting I (Sem)
-Principles of Accounting II (Sem)
-Economics (Sem)
-Arts and Crafts (Sem)

Based on these I will probably minor in something business related.
Please chance me and I will try to chance back!

Your academics are good but not great. Your course work does not seem to be the most rigorous, but it helps to have all As.

Rock School Program seems really unique and interesting. Sets you apart from the rest.

You have a decent shot at everything (sorry, I am too lazy to do it one at a piece)

wow…i forgot honors physics in 12th grade also

GiveMeReason - What do you mean exactly?(about the rigorous part) - I had scheduling conflicts this year so I couldn’t take Calc BC like I wanted too but I’m not taking it next year since a majority of these schools won’t give me any more credit for getting a 5 on the BC test than getting a 5 on the AB test. But I’m taking two sciences this year and next year. OChem is one of the hardest classes in my school and I took it as a junior. And i could have taken other honors classes instead of the business classes but I really enjoy business/communications which is why I decided to take them. (plus being a dentist, which is what I eventually want to do, is more of a private practice where you have to run a business rather than working in a hospital)

Any other thoughts?

bump 10char! Will chance back!

I’m not sure what GiveMeReason means when he/she says “your academics are good but not great.” Frankly, it doesn’t get much better than that. Advertising and Promo/Marketing will be the only non-honors/non-ap classes you took your entire junior and senior year. Assuming you continue with the no-b-on-transcript trend you’re pretty competitive at all the schools. Of course Columbia and Berkeley are huge reaches, but you’ve really done all you can. Write some stellar essays and get some good teacher recs too, btw. ;)

Something I say to all OOS applicants: can you afford 50k+ a year for the out of state publics you’ve listed?

In my school, most die-hard college prospects take ALL AP or IB classes their Junior or Senior year. So to see some Honors classes in Junior year throws me off, even if it isn’t necessarily justifiable.

jph093 - Thanks a lot! About the money thing, I’ve talked it over with my parents and they’ve told me we can afford OOS (frankly with room and board, a lot of them are cheaper than private universities and we are higher up on the income bracket); however, I plan on going to dental school with is like 60k+ per year so I will see if I get any scholarship/financial aid/etc. to help out otherwise I will go to a state school like Pitt, Penn State, Temple. I just feel that PA does get a bad deal it terms of the state schools (in terms of cost, not academics) since Pitt costs 16K per year in state whereas UCLA I believe costs 11K in state. And i also really want to get out of Pittsburgh :P

GiveMeReason - i understand what you mean. At my school, its almost impossible (both because of class layouts and work) to take more than 3/4 APs per year depending on how many are either 1.5 credits or 1 credit

Other thoughts? Will chance back!

I think your ECs are quite good actually.
6 APs is a good number for top schools and the fact that you have all As helps also.

I would probably take the SAT again (just in case you can improve it a bit) and I wouldn’t send that 710 becuase the other 2 are sufficient.

If you have time
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1348924-chances-ivy.html

Thanks Kili6! I probably won’t take SATs again out of laziness :stuck_out_tongue: but I am taking my ACT again and will hopefully get something higher that could potentially make me more competitive - although with the exceptions of Berkeley, Columbia, Northwestern, and maybe UNC, a 2210 should be high enough for most of my schools (I think)

Other chances? Will chance back!

Bump! Will chance back!

Bump!!!

I’m not familiar with all of the schools on your list, but I can tell you that you’re definitely in at Pitt, Penn State, and Temple. I actually know quite a few people that got great scholarships from Pitt, and if you apply earlier, you’ll have a really good chance at those.

In terms of rigor, it really depends on how much you’ve taken advantage of the APs offered at your school. If your school only offers 3 AP classes, then clearly you’re not going to be able to take “all APs”. If you’ve done the most you possibly can, it should be enough. Good luck!

Also, high five for speech and debate! What event are you in?

Thanks fantasiekey! My safety is probably Pitt but I’ll probably apply as soon as they let me haha. And my school offers a lot of APs but it’s hard to fit all of them (plus for languages you can’t really just jump in and take it). And I do DI in speech and debate :stuck_out_tongue: I started out in HI but wanted to try something different so now I’m in DI.

Chance me! Will chance back!

Updated question:

Do I have a shot at either the Villanova/Penn 7 year dental program (i think you have to apply by the early action date) or the Penn BioDental 7 year program (for this one, early decision vs regular - how would that work out?)

chances on my other schools would be appreciated! thanks in advance!

Oh! And a sub question regarding the Penn 7 year program. If I apply early, could I be accepted to Penn and not the program?

Will chance back!
