Chance Me Please! UPenn, Columbia, Stanford, UChicago, NYU, CMU

I suggest you get your parents’ financial info and start running some NPCs and find out what you can expect to get at those schools in terms of aid. Stanford, Penn, Columbia give out only need based aid. CMU does have some merit awards for females in STEM, and UCh and NYU has limited merit money too. NYU and CMU do not guarantee to meet need, That any of these schools cost a quarter million dollars to attend for a degree in most cases, may be a big impediment in your situation.

U Chicago, Stanford, Columbia and Penn are (at least loosely) peer institutions. They are all at least low reaches for everyone – every year, droves of uberqualified candidates are rejected by these fine institutions.

But you love music, clearly. Among the Ivies, the school with the best Humanities is Yale. If I were you, I’d add Yale to that list. Another reach, like the other four.

CMU and NYU are closer to matches for you.

You need to find at least one true safety.

@tola2015 - Enrico Fermi did NOT go to school at University of Chicago. He was a professor there after he left Italy in 1938. Since he was born in 1901, he was already an established physicist when he emigrated.

@xraymancs I’m just going on what the tour guide said. And why would a professor have a dorm room on campus??

Working late at night? When we do experiments at the Advanced Photon Source (running 24 hours), we get rooms at the guest house on the Argonne campus even if we live in the Chicago area. he was absolutely NOT a student. he was already a professor in Italy before he emigrated in 1938 and he did a lot of his first work on radioactive materials there.

ivies and stanford: reach
u chicago: low reach
cmu: high match
nyu match

Stanford, Columbia: high reach
Penn, Chicago: mid-reach
CMU, NYU: high match
