I am a senior this year and I want to realistically know what my chances are for UVA. I am an instate student from a smaller community - it sends about six-ten students to UVA a year.
I have taken 7 dual enrollment classes and three APs (Bio, Environmental Science, Government) and all honors aside from PE and Spanish 1-3. I am also enrolled in my schools governors school program and have been since freshman year and because of this I have taken the hardest classes my school offers.
I am actively involved in:
Tennis - 4years
SCA - 3years (excluding junior)
SODA (Student Organization for Developing Attitudes) - 2years
Newspaper - 1year
NHS - 1year
Senior Class Council - 1year
Volunteer at my local SPCA - 2years
I know I have strong essays and teacher recommendations - it’s mostly just the numbers I’m worried about. I plan to apply to their architecture school. Thank you!!
I have stronger stats and EC’s than you and I’m applying this year and think of it as a reach for myself. My cousin (who is a Georgetown Medical student currently) was denied, which adds to my worry.
That being said, anything is possible! It’s good to have reach schools, but I wouldn’t count on getting in. Have a more realistic first choice and try not to expect to get in, because it might not go as planned.
I would say its a reach school but a “low” reach school. So you are somewhere in between match and reach with a lean towards reach. Good class rank, decent standardized tests (if you can retake them, it might boost ur chances, but my guess is that they wont really help or hurt). The instate acceptance rate is around 40% so it’s competitive but not crazy. Also @maisiekate my guess is that ur cousin was out of state… Much much much more competitive. If not, it may be that they just accelled much more in college; not all students are mature. By the way… Nice humblebrag… Not all stats have similar context. A 3.9 from one school may mean much more that a 4.0 from another… Same with class rank… Dont get cocky
@pcaornkqeurest a) sorry this is so late, I generally only come on when I’m having a crisis or feel like chancing people (although clearly I’m not very good) and b) you’re right, that did sound harsh. I didn’t mean to come off as bragging - my stats aren’t even much higher, just a tad - I just meant to use it as a reference point. but sorry for the negativity!
