I am planning to go to computer science schools, but I couldn’t find a good in-state CS school, so I am wondering if I have chances for UVA for Computer Science. Thank you. By the way, we have 6-point grading scale. I am applying EA.

-I have strong passion for computer science and computer programming.
What do you think about University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign? Purdue Univ., Univ. of Texas - Austin and Georgia Tech (chance of getting into this school is extremely slim, though)?
I am not expecting good feedbacks. Please give me a sincere opinion. Thank you.
I’m confused about what you’re saying about your grading scale. Do you have a 3.55 GPA out of 6?
Oh, no. By that, I meant that the grade scale of our county (Fairfax County) is as following: A = 94-100, A- = 93-90, B+ = 87-89, B = 83-86… and so on and so forth. My un-weiighted GPA is 3.55 out of 4.0. My weighted GPA is 3.85/4.??.
What are your composite ACT and SAT scores?
I have not taken ACT.
Composite SAT #1 = 710M 730W 580R
Composite SAT #2 = 770M 680W 480R
I would say that your GPA and grades for some of those classes are a little low for UVA. Still, your SAT scores seem good, with the exception of reading.
UIUC – very low chance
Purdue – low chance
UT Austin – low chance
Georgia Tech – low to very low chance
I am not in a position to estimate your chances as an IS applicant for UVA.
What about schools such as Rutgers, UMD-College Park, or Ohio State? These schools have good computer science programs; have you looked into any of those?
Is there any good colleges in Virginia, excluding Virginia Tech? I have not taken New SAT, so I cannot apply there.
What do you think about University of Washington or University of Wisconsin-Madison? How likely am I to get in there? Please always note that I am planning to major in computer science.
Hey dude. Don’t sweat! There are plenty of awesome colleges to choose from especially in the comp sci field. However for a lot of schools this means that you might have to apply to their engineering school (I know that for UVA it’s like that). So keep that in mind. Also, if a school has a high acceptance rate (>65%) then you’re probably going to get into their university studies program. For the school’s you’re looking at (which specialize in STEM fields) it’ll be harder for you to get accepted into the actual program of comp sci. One thing that will really help you would be the ECs (bulking up your extracurriculars can really make an application impressive!)
PS – VT is the number one school in the Virginia for STEM. If you care a lot about that kind of stuff, then I would seriously consider taking the SAT again so you can apply. Not to mention that Blacksburg is GORGEOUS
Good luck!
