Chance me please! (Wellesley, BU, Northeastern)

I’m a junior but I want to get an idea of where I stand.

Unweighted GPA: 3.75 (hopefully will go up a little)

Weighted GPA: 4.99

SAT- 1310 (again, hoping to get this up when I retake it!!)

Class Rank- top 10%

Extracurriculars- ~10 years of horseback riding, United States Pony Club (kind of like 4H), 9 years of flute, marching band, I’m involved with gun control activism and started a club at my school for it, school newspaper, volunteering with freshman transition/orientation events, National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, quiz bowl.

APs- I got a 4 on the APUSH exam. I’m taking US Gov and Lang this year, and hoping to get at least a 4 on both. I’m only
taking AP Lit next year.

Schedule:
Freshman- Honors English, Honors world history, CP Algebra 1, CP Physical Science, Honors French 2, Band
Sophomore- Honors English, APUSH, CP Geometry, Honors Bio, Honors French 3, Band
Junior- AP Lang, AP US Gov, Honors Econ, CP Algebra 2, CP Chem, Honors French 4, Band
Planned Senior Schedule- AP Lit, Honors Sociology, Law and Society, CP Physics, CP Pre-calc, Honors French 5, band

Potential Major: Political Science

Demographics- White girl from a public school in NH

I’m also hoping to find some safeties I’d want to go to (I’ve seen Umass Amherst, which was too big for me, and UNH, which I’d rather avoid since so many people from my high school go there) and more target schools, so suggestions would be great too. I’m mostly looking at schools in New England, and I don’t want to go to a religious school.

Current Wellesley student here. I think you probably have a good chance at bu and northeastern. For Wellesley, your sat score is a bit low, but you said you are planning to retake it. I might also suggest a subject test or two if you think you would do well. Your AP course load is pretty light, so maybe more next year would be advisable. However, if your school doesn’t offer any other AP’s, you should explain that on your app. Your gun control advocacy could be a unique angle and a compelling essay focused on that could give you an edge.

@txndebater The average SAT / ACT for admitted students, class of 2022:
Wellesley: 1438 / 32
BU: 1468 / 32
Northeastern: 32-34 / 1400-1500 (used middle 50 for 2021, will update that when numbers for 2022 are released).

Given current profiles, your best shot is at Wellesley. Your SAT may potentially being too low, albeit you mentioned you’re retaking it. Northeastern particularly has sky high standardized test scores as of late, so if you end up with the same SAT, then they’ll probably be low reaches/big matches given your good GPA and involvement.

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats are decent and your ECs are good, although getting a 1400+ on the SAT would be great. Write amazing essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

@txndebater slightly off topic but did you interview when you applied to Wellesley? It’s the only school I’ve found so far that offers them and I’m considering doing one. If you did, do you think it helped?

Everything looks great. The only thing that needs work is your SAT score, which you’re aware of. If you don’t have financial concern, consider applying Early Decision (binding), but only if one school stands out to you above all as your top choice by the time you apply. If you’re willing to travel a bit, the DC area schools are great for Political science. I would look into George Washington University and American University. Some schools I can think of as matches in the New England area are University of Connecticut, Trinity College, and Connecticut College. Some safeties are University of Rhode Island, Quinnipiac University, and University of Vermont. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions!

I think all three are high reaches and not probable. Look at American, Dickinson, Skidmore, University of Rochester, Mt. Holyoke for matches. Providence College and UVM would be safeties if affordable.
