Academic GPA: 4.4286

BTW GPA i dont really understand....

Sat 1 scores: highest cumulative was 1900, but highest for reading and writing was 600, and highest for Math was 720
Sat 2: Math level 2 score and Chemistry were both 670 ( i plan to retake both, and maybe a third Subject test, not sure at the moment about the third)
Act: i have not taken it yet but i plan to take it in septemeber

Extracurriculars: I've been playing Piano outside of school as private lessons since third grade, so its been about 9 years now. I'm going to be a committee head of my school's math club next year. Im working on becoming a lifetime member of CSF (California scholarship foundation?) I did a little bit more than 20 hours of service my sophomore year. Im currently doing volunteer service at a hospital near by, i plan on doing 40 hours theres. I applied to NHS, but im not sure if ive been accepted.

Oh! and i am in the top 10% of my class. My high school is like 90% asians so id say its pretty competitive.

I plan on taking AP enviromental Science, regular physics, AP Stats, AP econ, and world literature as my main courses next year.

What do you think are my chances of being accepted to UCSD, Cal state San Luis Obispo, UCI, UCR, UCSB, University of Pacific, UC Berkley, UCLA,, USC, University of San Diego, or other colleges are universities that have a pretty good engineering program? in engineering? i plan on going biomedical engineering or electrical engineering or chemical engineering. I live in california btw.

Please reply and thank you for answering my chance me.

The top tier UC’s are an immense reach. UCSB, UCR, and UCI may be a match. You should really take the SAT if you want to improve your chances anywhere. As for your GPA, I am also confused about how you had a 4.4 Junior year with just 3 aps.

^ I’m also confused because, by my calculations, a straight-A schedule of 3 APs and 3 regular courses should yield a GPA of 4.5 (((5+5+5+4+4+4)/6)), not 4.4286. I guess different schools weigh GPAs differently.

Bsmd111 because 3 of those aps are weighted so im suppose to get a 4.5 gpa. which is what it says on my report card. But the website, our school uses powerschool, it says in our grade history, im guessing that the academic gpa they gives us is acutally caclualted form the previous years too. Because the ones fomr the website are usually slightly less than the academic gpa they give us on our report card every semester.

Bsmd11 if u didnt notice. i did take the SAT i even listed my scores.

^I meant retake… sorry, was in a haste when I typed that post.

I think that your chances are excellent at any of the CSUs with the possible exception of Cal Poly SLO where your 1320/1600 SAT score (CSUs do not consider writing scores) is about average for that school. Plus I believe the CSU admission process is so automated with no essays or letters of recomendation that that they will just throw your 1320 total score into their admission algorithm and compare you with all other applicants no matter what their intended major. This could mean that your 720 in Math which makes you a very strong candidate for engineering while your 600 in CR is high enough that you would be able to fulfill your distribution requirements in the liberal arts, along with your high GPA, which would make you a very good candidate for engineering at Cal Poly SLO might not be seen in that context. It would help if you lived in the CAL Poly SLO service area since it is an impacted CSU.

The UCs carefully examine all aspects of an applicant’s application, require essays and letters of recommendation and treat each applicant as an individual. Therefore they would recognize that you would be a strong applicant for an engineering program. Unfortunately, even with your 4.5 GPA, your 1900/2400 SAT scores (UCs do look at the writing score) is probably not high enough to get you into UC Berkeley and UCLA and even UCSD could be somewhat of a reach. You should have no problem being accepted at UCI, UCSB and UCR.

Cal Poly SLO seems like a reach.

Cal Poly doesn’t recognize service area.

GPA info:

The UCs will use the **“UC GPA” **which is
-10th and 11th grade only
-UC-approved A-G courses only
-1 bonus GPA point for up to 8 semesters of AP or UC-approved honors (the honors designation MUST appear on your high school’s Doorways listing to be granted the extra GPA point)
-Only 4 semesters of AP/honors bonus GPA will be granted for sophomore year

**USC **will use unweighted GPA and consider course rigor.

Just a note: I am sure you know this, but as your title mentions “UCs and Cal States” and you include some private universities I want to clarify that USC, University of the Pacific and University of San Diego are not part of the UC or CSU systems - they are private universities.
