<p>Hm…debate is a very “cliche” EC, but if you choose to pursue it, it can only help you. That letter from the Dartmouth alum definitely would help, as colleges like to hear from their “ancestors”, and if you can get very very strong recommendations from the aforementioned people, then your chances are much higher. Make sure, however, that they don’t simply write “this student is a great student and has contributed much to our school”. Rather, have them write a short anecdote on a specific moment and elaborate at that into your passion for debate, this will help out so much more. Of course, don’t tell your teachers what to write, but simply offer them some advice and be like “I would appreciate it if you could use a specific moment in your recommendation” or the like.</p>
