Chance me please!! Will chance back!!

I am an asian-american female and attend a large failing urban public high school in New England. Every year, my school sends about about 4~5 grads to Ivies, which is surprising given its status as a school that focuses more on preventing bomb threats than encouraging academic success.

Of course, it would be easier to chance you if we knew your intended major. Write good essays + don’t mention suff that you did for only one year. You should get into a few top tier schools, and maybe a couple ivies. Good luck + chacne me back.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168384-chances-couple-toptier-other-colleges.html</a></p>

Why is superscore no help for your schools?
I suggest you don’t retake the SAT I. Any more improvement won’t increase your chances and you could spend that time practicing violin, working on research, etc

Thanks!
I consider Math my strongest section and haven’t not gotten an 800 on it since a practice test in 8th grade, but I embarrassingly got a 710 on my 2nd sitting of it, so I’d rather take it again instead of having that 710 there-sorry about that, someone told me that most of those schools only looked at best sitting, but I looked up a few and they aren’t.
As for my major, I am not completely decided, but what if I went for biostatistics or bio/biochem?

definitely a chance at all and also possible Ivies, however it all will depend on essays and interviews for sure. I can 100% promise you that! Good luck.

I think you have a great shot at an of the schools you apply to, for you seem to have taken an extremely rigorous curriculum path and you obviously excel in many. Wow…very nice work!

Chance me back?

You have a great chance at those schools you listed- your academics and extracurcciulars are definitely awesome!! How’d you land that Yale internship? That’s pretty cool :]

Ivies - REach (Jsut liek anyone) but you have a VERY GOOD CHANCE.
UChicago - Definite match
Northwestern - definite match
Johns Hopkins University - Match
Duke- High match/some safety
Wellesley - Match
Williams - Match

I WISH you way more than luck! You are a superb candidate and colleges would luck out if they didn’t take you :]

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1167626-wowowowowow.html</a></p>

Given the fact you are ranked first, probably up there in test scores, and good ecs in a school that sends a few to ivies yearly, u r in good position. If not ivies u will get into another on that list. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1169169-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thank you so much!
My guidance counselor was telling me that because I only have 5 classes out of the available 8 periods colleges might think I’m slacking off or have a bad impression of me-would it be okay though since I have mostly AP classes?
Should I really not mention stuff I only did for one year? I might not mention badminton, but shouldn’t I include National Honor Society? In my school, you’re only allowed to do it senior year if you qualify.

boondocks, are you saying if you play a sport for only one year you shouldn’t mention it?

I would say you have a good chance at Ivies, better than most people xD, all the other schools seem like match. I would say, go ahead on retake SAT I, one sitting high score is more impressive  thanks for chancing me :)

Thanks a bunch everyone!!
If I were to get a paper out of my research project, but did not get all the way to Siemens finals or anything of that sort, do you think submitting it as supplementary material would make an impact? And one of the very first science competitions I hope to enter would have results out in March-would results from that be too late to make an impact on my chances?

Oh and if this makes any impact at this point-AP scores that came out for me…
APUSH-5
AP Bio-5
AP Stats-5
AP Gov-4 :(

Can you guys tell me what you think of MY resume? I’m a rising junior from New York and

UPENN IS MY DREAM, let me know if I have a chance :/

Yeah you have a great chance at all of those schools. Lets just assume you are going into a undeclared/college of arts and sciences major (since you didn’t specify), I would say your reach schools would be the likes of Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia. All of the other schools would be target schools. However, if you were to apply to UPenn Wharton, or the Northwestern 7 year med program (extremely prestigious), it would be a different story. It all depends on what major you intend to go into. Your SATs are excellent, getting 2290 is something that would not really be needed to be improved on, (2300 does look good though :p). Maybe instead of retaking your SAT I, you could work on your essay, or whatever else would increase your chances of getting admitted. Good luck.

Ivies- reach, just like everyone else because they’re unpredictable
UChicago- match, maybe low reach
Northwestern- match
Johns Hopkins University- match
Duke- match/low reach (it can be a bit unpredictable as well)
Wellesley- match
Williams- match

You honestly have excellent chances at all the schools you listed. Congrats!

Thank you so much everyone!
Are there any other suggestions for colleges where you might think I would be a good fit?

Joany, Let me give you a completely different perspective (which may be completely irrelevant if you happen to come from an affluent family.) You are very clearly in the very top tier of students in this country…congratulations. Most of the schools on your list will probably welcome you; however, there are many more excellent schools out there that would love to have you and will compete to get you. While you may get some merit aid from a few schools on your list, most will not offer merit aid since everyone there is really smart…well almost everyone. The schools out there that would love to get you will offer you major merit scholarships up to, and including, full rides, some with a stipend on top of that. Money may be of no concern to you, but in case it is, just consider it and keep in mind that your undergrad school is far less important long term than your grad school. Our family just went through this. In the end, my daughter turned down her dream schools where the tab would have been $50-60K per year, and is going to a highly ranked public university in their honors program for a fraction of the cost as a result of the scholarships that they offered her to attract her. Her plan is to attend an ivy grad school when the time comes. She will do that debt free and have all the money we saved for undergrad at her disposal. Good luck and congrats again…

You definitely have a shot at all of these schools, joany. Solid grades, solid SAT scores, and not to mention class rank. Your ECs are great. TBH, the only thing working against you is your race (although, it doesn’t hurt, URMs get in w/ lower scores sometimes). At this point, all depends on your interview and/or your essay. Wish you the best of luck! :D

chance me?

@crobinpa Oh I know!!! I am most definitely applying for financial aid, as I unfortunately (I question my word choice…) am not from an affluent family. My parents and I have already agreed that if I were to get into one of these schools, that we would definitely try our best to pay for it. If not or if the financial aid is entirely unacceptable, I am applying to UConn honors and a few other state schools. Would you have any other recommendations for possible schools that might be good choices financially as well as academically?
