Chance me please!! Will chance back!!

Joany,

I am sure there are quite a few schools with high academics and lots of merit aid out there. I can tell you the ones that my daughter considered and was accepted into: University of Maryland (their Honors College blew me away, but my didn’t grab my daughter) Penn State Schreyer College, Drexel Honors, Univ of Delaware Honors (my daughter’s choice), University of Richmond, and Loyola College of Maryland. D got merit aid into the mid $20K per year for many of these schools. Your stats are slightly stronger than hers, so you should do even better. Out of all of them though, the big surprises for us were Maryland and Delaware. Solid schools to begin with, but their honors programs took them over the top. Having said all of that, I know that it is very hard to let go of the ivy dream and you may not have to, but if you keep an open mind, look at the entire picture, including finances, lifestyle, academics, you may find some hidden gems out there. For my daughter it came down to W&M and Delaware. To us, (and some may not agree and I don’t care) honors at UDel put that school on a more equal footing with W&M academically. Once that equivalence was made, it no longer was much of a choice. Location, cost, and lifestyle were far more appealing at Udel, so Udel it is.

for some last minute reassurance
more chances please?

I just got my SAT scores from the October test
best sitting: 2370
superscore: 2380

I will be co-author of 3 research papers (1 is currently being reviewed for publication, the other two are still being written) so I will be submitting those as supplementary academic material along with violin recording.

Those schools all sound like likelies for you. Chicago might be a reach but Chicago is a reach for everyone, imo!

OP: I must say that you are very competitive for most of the schools you listed (compared to last years admits’ profiles on the decisions threads), but for the upper tiered ivies, no one is guaranteed acceptance. Work on your essays and enjoy your year. Be confident that 6 months from now you will have options and acceptances reserved to the best and brightest. Make sure to update the decisions on a thread when you receive them so that you can help give future applicants an idea of their own chances.

I wish you the best of luck.

wannabe252 if you could elaborate on your class rank / GPA / activities it would make it easier for people to give you a reasonable “chance” response. But congratulations on your 2200!

I honestly think you’re one of the most qualified people I’ve come across on cc that doesn’t have any national/international awards. Everything you’ve done with Yale should help tremendously when applying there, I would say you have a very decent shot at top schools. Good luck!

I think you have a good shot at all of the ivies but remember that they are hard to get into so you might not get in. For UChicago you have a 60% chance. For Duke and JHU I think you have an 75% chance. The rest are safeties so I think you will get into those. Good Luck!

you have a good chance at all the schools! ivies will obviously be more difficult, but you should almost certainly get into one or two of the ivies. please chance back :)
