Chance me please!

I applied Early Action Tulane On October 13th and my application was completed this monday. I have not heard back yet and I am getting worried because my friends heard back yesterday.

It was a reach for me so maybe they are still deciding
here are my stats:

86 UW average
SAT: 620 CR 560 M 580 W
Took the hardest classes offered at my high school
my high school is known for being extremely competitive

My extra currics
Eagle Scout
over 200+ service hours
Editor in Chief of school newspaper
hospital volunteer
science club
music club

My essays were really well written, creative, and everyone i showed them to really liked them

:(

Well, you only have a few weeks to wait, and anything said on here doesn’t help too much. Only what Tulane says really matters. I am sure you already know that your stats are on the low side for Tulane. Your EC’s are strong, but it is hard to say if they are enough to overcome the low (for Tulane) GPA/SAT results.

well my friend got in
with a 510, 540, and 630
so im hoping for the best!
thanks !

Your friend got in with a 1680?! Dear God, I am going to kill someone if I’m not accepted.

That’s very low for Tulane. Might be an athlete, or might have some other major hook. Or might just be fibbing to their friend. Who knows. I mean after all, facts are facts and Tulane’s 25-75 SAT scores are 630-720, 630-700, and 630-720 for CR, M and W. They cannot get those numbers admitting many students with the stats stated. Or maybe that same student took the ACT also and did much better on that. That happens fairly often. I don’t know, of course. I only know for sure that those stats are well below the average Tulane student.

Not an athlete and she had no major hook
she just had good essays I guess

buMpz…

I know some universities play the “get really high acceptance rates” game, by artificially inflating the system. They do this by only accepting people they know will come to the school, and not people with above average scores, because they are more likely to select another school with a better ranking. Basically, they don’t want to be your safety school. This happened to me at one school; I applied, my stats were much higher than average, they waitlisted me. It’s annoying but part of the game.

However, I think the lower 500s are a fib factor. I doubt your friend was accepted with those scores. Tulane (if they play this game) are probably shooting for people with mid 600s, who aren’t really game for anything higher, but aren’t really state school folks.

That being said, I don’t think you’ll be accepted with those scores, unless your EC really convince admissions you’re awesome.

what about applying EASC with 600 r 700 m 600 w, 4 ap’s, dual citizenship, 120 hours community service, no class rank but b average, and a sibling at tulane?

Not as dismal as the person above, but not automatic. It averages at about 630 for each, which might be ideal if Tulane plays the “admissions game.” If they, however, don’t, you’re probably on the upper low/lower average end.

why would I fib if I was realistically looking for your opinion…

I don’t think she is saying you are fibbing…

“However, I think the lower 500s are a fib factor. I doubt your friend was accepted with those scores.”

Your complete and utter failure to understand the direct syntax of my sentences explains your low SAT verbal score. Congratulations.

I GOT IN!
just check gibson
c u at tulayne!!!

That’s great. Congrats!

Maybe some of us do have a chance after all. From the stats other people have been posting Tulane seems like it rivals Harvard for admission difficulty. Being an eagle scout is what got you in though. There was a student from my school 3 years ago that was accepted to BC with a 2.8 GPA and 1720 on his SAT’s solely because he was an eagle scout.

Just going to leave this here:

http://bios.weddingbee.com/pics/41540/dont-feed-the-■■■■■.jpg

Actually, they can get those numbers even while admitting up to 24.9% of the students with 400/400 scores. Once you’re below the 25%, it doesn’t matter if it’s 1 point under, or 300 points under – that would only affect the AVERAGE, not the percentiles of a non-normal distribution. Same is true for the 75%… the entire 24.9% can all be just one point over (or in this case 10 points over).

Here is an example.

Applicant 1: 400/400/400
Applicant 2: 630/630/630
Applicant 3: 720/700/720
Applicant 4: 730/710/730

Still gives a 25/75 of 630/720, 630/700 and 630/720.

All the football players in the 400/400/400 category don’t affect the 25% any more than those scoring 620/620/620.

see what I mean?

Yes, I see what you mean, but I said the cannot recruit many students with those scores and maintain those stats. If I take your example and add a couple more students with low stats, it does shift the numbers that would be reported.

In any case, it appears from other posts that Meowmeow is a ■■■■■, and the post quite suspect.
