Chance me please!

Please chance me. Don't be afraid to be honest.!

School: pretty big public in MA
GPA: 3.78/4.00 (UW; my school doesn't do weighted)
Rank: N/A (my school also doesn't rank)
Course load this year: pretty rigorous but I bet everyone else's is as rigorous (or even more rigorous).. I am taking: AP BC Calc; AP American Govt. and Politics; AP Environmental Science; AP French; British Literature (no AP English classes in my school); dance.. lol

SAT I: 2340 (M: 800/ WT: 800/ CR: 740)
SAT II: Math 2C (800); World Hist (750); Chem (730); US Hist (750); Writing (800)
AP: AP Chem (4); AP US Hist (5); AP English Lit (5); AP Psych (5)

ECs:
- President of the school legislature and council (10th-12th)
- Secretary of the environmental action club (10th-12th)
- Student book columnist for a local newspaper (9-12)
- Paid journalist for a local magazine (9-10)
- Gallery guide at Harvard Museum of Natural History (10-12)
- Intern for a research project on child epilepsy at Children's Hospital (11th)
- Intern for a research project on brain white matter and related diseases (12th): got a rec from the Harvard Med professor who ran the research..
- National Honor Society member (12th)

Awards:
- Presidential volunteer service award (11th)
- some New England scholarship for leadership (10th)
- John and Abigail Scholarship (12th)

Recs: pretty good although i haven't read them-- I had very close relationships w/ all my teachers (and w/ my counselor) b/c they were also involved in extracurricular activities I did in school.
- I got an additional one from the Harvard Med School professor whom I worked for over the summer... We got along pretty well, but I don't know what he wrote for me on the rec. I hope it can help me somehow..

Weakness/concern: My GPA is low... I took a chem class in Harvard last year and got a B+ (and also got a B+ in my junior yr math class...!).

Potential plus: My mom went to Harvard as an undergrad. Dad went to Harvard for MBA. AAANND, maybe, the rec I got from the Harvard professor can help? I don't know how much it can help me though..

Additional Info..just in case:
- Ethnicity: white??

It’s true that your GPA is on the low side, but everything else looks solid, especially your test scores and EC’s. The rec letter from the Harvard professor should help. Good luck!

I think you will get in…

I have a feeling you’ll be fine. You’ve got a strong academic background, and your GPA is certainly not bad by any means. Your standout ECs and excellent SAT scores are also great. That you have a legacy background to prop you up is even better. Good luck, and I’m sure you’ll make a great student here!

Curiosity (based on your ECs): do you go to CRLS?

…When was “Writing” ever an SAT II option?

oops. i meant to say literature.

I don’t go to CRLS.

I meant to say “literature” when i said “writing” for SAT II subject test. My bad.

Wowza. Your stats are very similar to mine. VERY similar. I am not really in a position to “chance,” but the positive responses to this thread are very comforting and encouraging. Good luck—hope we both make it!
