-I didn't write the Why Duke essay :( but my common app essay is a boss.

bump. anyone?

um…sure

It’s difficult to say just looking at your details; your stats don’t stand apart from the crowd, and your extracurriculars are heavily skewed towards your junior and senior year, which may give adcoms an impression that you did them only for college admissions. However, you do have interesting business experience that may or may not be an important factor. This probably isn’t what you want to hear, but I would say that Duke is a reach.

well I did switch countries halfway through high school… though I do admit my 11/12 grade ECs are better, there’s also much more to do here.

come on guys, 300 views and only 2 responses so far?

You’re a good, well rounded applicant. Duke is extremely selective but I think you have a good chance. Does being Indian qualify as URM status? If so then your chances are even better.

no being Indian makes my chances worse haha

As far as College admissions go, being an Indian (NOT native American) sucks big time. Go to any top campus, you will see droves of Indian Americans as well as Indians from India. We are clearly an ORM and we are seeing that it is hurting admission chances at top schools.

Essentially, colleges are limiting the number Asians (I dont blame them, the percentage of asians at top colleges is already high in relation to the percentage of asians in the overall population), but the number of asian applicants is ballooning.

yeah I remember seeing once that the acceptance rate for asian males at MIT is 2-3%. i don’t blame them either, so many of us apply to these schools.
