I'm applying to Andover, Milton, Choate, Deerfield, and Exeter. I'm a white american living in Florida. I have a weighted gpa of 4.03, and am doing very well in a private school down here. I have A's in Algebra 2 honors, French 2 honors, and English honors and Human Geography AP in which i have a B+. The only thing I'm nervous about is my SSAT. I did fairly well but standardized tests always freak me out. I only got into the 74% percentile. I have played ice hockey for 7 years. I play on a AAA (highest division) team that is a year older than me, and i play on a AAA team my age. I have made the US national development team program, and have also been selected to play in a World Invitational tournament in Russia this spring. I also played the piano for multiple years but have recently stopped, and now I would like to try guitar. Im more interested in English and Science that math. Im also interested in playing lacrosse.

I’m really sorry to say but with 74%, it is highly unlikely you will make it into those top tier schools. I really admire your 7 years of dedication to hockey. That shows you are not fickle with ECs. Why don’t you try for Blair or the Hill?

Thats what i had expected to hear Fortunately the coaches said that I have a rather good chance of admission because they are able to use their “pushes.” also the rest of my app is quite good I believe.

You have played for the US National Development Team and you’re playing in a World Invitational Tournament. You’re probably very good at hockey. Send in a video of you playing, and contact some coaches. If you’re as good as you sound, they will love you. They will do everything in their power to get you in. If you’re as good as you sound, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Good luck.

Thank you ifax:D I have sent them in and the coaches said they would be using their “pushes” to help my chances. The only thing that I was worried about was the ssat score which does seem quite low. -_____-

Please tell me more about coach pushes. I am not familar with the concept. It sounds as if a bs coach has influence getting a student with athletic talent accepted. If this is the case, to what extent does the coach have influence?

I’ve been told that while coaches can state their preferences, they are not actually a part of the admit decision. “Bump” moves a thread from a lower position back up to the top of the page, where more people will see it again.

I think you’re right, but tit definitly helps to have more people from the school on your side. Also at choate, the hockey choach is the associate director of admissions.

i think you have a good chance. you seem smart. your grades arent perfect but they are at the level for those schools. not everyone gets straight As, including me. sports will help you get in. your and your lucky for the hockey coach at choate to be on the admissions team. that happened to me too at my top school. she was the coach of lacrosse and field hockey and was on the admission board. i was sooo happy when i got to talk to her, because i asked her about different camps/club teams and stuff. it was nice:)
