I applied regular decision and I am very nervous, and feeling anxious. To start off, my GPA weighted is a 4.0 and unweighted it is a 3.6667. Because of my AP's this year my GPA should rise but it would be the end of the year. My class rank on my transcript says 89 of 269. The part that worries me is my SAT, I took it twice. The first time I scored a 1510, and the second 1540. I'm really not a good test taker but work hard. Here is a whole break down of my 4 years and grades.

I went on a P2P student ambassador trip to Australia right before high school started and mentioned that in my essay

Lastly, I live in the south (originally from NY) and the high school I am in now has a reputation of being one of the best public schools in the state, if that matters. I also am African american, I'm not relying on that factor but I hear it makes a small difference.

your SATs definitely hurt an otherwise solid package. but typically a high GPA will offset bad SATs so if yours is as high as you say, you should still have a good shot. I’d say you have about a 75% chance of getting in

Thank you for your response, you have made my day with that last part, there’s hope :).

Lastly, just one more question. My GPA is correct as listed, but the stats that are listed for the majority of people who are accepted, is that judged by weighted or unweighted GPA’s?

glad i could help! its usually judged by weighted. and your’s is well above the average for admitted students which is around 3.7. and if you want additional reassurance (i know i did before i got in) check out http://www./ if you create a free profile on this site, it’ll give you your numerical chance of getting into any school you applied to. i changed my info to match yours and it gave me a 70.1% chance but i dont know your exact stats so it could be a little different. also the site makes its calculations based only on GPA and SATs so if you wrote a strong essay, your chances are even better!

Yeah, you can’t post the names of CC’s competitors.

OP, your SAT score is below Fordham’s 25th percentile, but not by a lot. Your GPA is good, as are your courses. You’re a borderline candidate with a decent shot if you come off as more than your SAT score, so I would highly recommend writing and mailing (not emailing, mailing) a letter explaining your interest in Fordham. If it’s your top choice, say so. Be sincere. It will help.

I don’t see if you said which campus you’re applying to; both Rose Hill and Lincoln Center have similar admissions. However, if you applied to Lincoln Center and said you had to have housing, it’s a little more competitive (but not a lot). Maybe you can look at past decision threads to see how you stack up.

Thank you all once again. I hope my decision comes in March instead of April, the anticipation is killing me. Rishi thank you for the link, 70%? Wow, that is great. As far as my essay, I wrote about my student ambassador experience in Australia and how that expanded my outlook on the world in terms of diversity and that thinking globally is better than locally. I hope it is strong.

Billy, thank you for the help. About the letter, it isn’t too late? I just sent my mid-year report so that is why ask, I thought thta would have been better before the deadline. I applied to the Lincoln Center campus, checked the box saying I intended for need-based financial aid (I didn’t really want to, but my dad said to), and yes, I did check the box for intending to live in college housing (my parents weren’t positive whether or not I should live off/on so they said to put that). If I knew it would have affected my chances I would have told them.

I don’t think it’s too late for a letter of interest. Worst case, they’ve already made their decision. But if they haven’t, it shows that you’re interested.

Applying for need-based aid won’t hurt you, and the housing thing still shouldn’t make a big difference. Good luck.

collegebound - I don’t think applying with housing hurts your admission chances. I know of people who checked the box for housing but were admitted to Fordham without housing.

Haven’t posted in a while, and I must say since we’re now in March the anticipation is killing me even more. Thank you all for your posts, but lately I’ve been feeling a lot less confident than before. It is still my SAT score that is worrying me to death, after looking at different forums/sites and other students’ “High GPA/Low SAT” situations, I see many answers that go along as “Your SAT is too low, it will not happen” and I just feel really worried afterwards. Although, everyone here has helped a lot and made me feel at ease and once again, thank you!
