Any Good ?
If anything, please tell me how I could improve to get into Vanderbilt. I'm a legacy at two Ivies but i doubt i'd get in (:

What are your test scores? GPA will probably get you into most of the UC’s (maybe not Berkeley or LA), but that’s some pretty critical information that’s missing. As a sophomore, you probably haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet-- but what about the PSAT or PLAN?

Chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html

StrangeBro is incorrect. A 3.58 will not get you into any of those UCs except for maybe Irvine or SB, and even those are mid reaches.

Ahem. UCs look at the weighted GPA-- as a CA resident you should know this. 3.73 and good scores will sneak you into San Diego and shore up an app for UCI and Santa Barbara.

In the end, though, it does come down to scores. Bottom line, a 2200+ will make the upper-echelon schools look twice even if your GPA is questionable.

for the test scores, I’ve taken the PSAT and I am a national merit semi-finalist. I received a total score of a 220? I have taken a SAT practice test and i recieved a 2000? I really want to go to Vanderbilt and my current grades in my courses are straight A’s.

Vanderbilt is extremely selective. The National Merit Scholar would help, and you’ll definitely need over a 2000 to offset the grades you have currently. Then again, you’ve only completed three semesters of high school, and you’ll have a much better inkling as to where you’ll set come this time next year. My advice to you: work hard and keep your eyes on the prize-- with excellent grades and scores, you’ll have a very competitive app when the time comes. Good luck!

hopefully ! so, if I got above a 2000 on the SAT’s I would have a good chance to get into Vanderbilt? If I got straight A’s next year, would that make me look better ?

Actually StrangeBro, I believe that they look at unweighted GPA as well. And a 3.58/3.73 is significantly lower than the averages for UCSD and UCI. Believe me, my high school sends 1/3 to UCs and it’s not getting any easier for class of 2012 and onward.

Allstarcheer, get that GPA up because a 3.58 most likely will not get you into many of those schools.
