Chance Me Please :)

Hi,

I’m a junior in High School. I have been home schooled since elementary. I take a few courses at the local community college and audit a class or two at a university near my house. At the community college I have a 3.2 GPA as a non-matriculated student. I took my junior year SATs and got a 1740 total (good in CR ok in Writing and not good in Math… though I am trying to improve my math scores). I am the editor of the community college newspaper and a member of a few clubs on campus. I have credits 29 (with 60 needed to graduate). I am an ethnic minority and will require a combination of grants/loans/work/scholarships where ever I apply. I recently applied for a topnotch summer program but was rejected so I plan on spending my summer trying to bolster my standardized test scores- perhaps the ACT? I also was an exchange student to China for 6 months earlier this year which messed up my timing for the PSAT.
I am not sure if I should apply as a transfer (which removes most of my HS transcript) or as a freshman to a 4-year school with my college courses giving me a complete(ish) HS transcript. What are my chances at schools in the Northeast or California? I’ve been aiming for Smith, Mount Holyoke, Trinity, Barnard, UCONN, UMASS Amherst or Cambridge, Wesleyan, Syracuse University, Loyola, a UC, Emerson. What are other good options? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should check out the schools you are interested in to see about whether to apply as freshman or transfer. It’s not up to you; they usually have their own rules about it.

You could try posting this in the homeschool, search and selection, or admissions sections.
