Chance me PLEASE!

What are my chances getting into James Madison U?
I am a junior at a public high school in Maine.
I take honor level courses, and get B's and A's. Senior year I will be taking AP English and AP Euro as well as Advanced Bio.
My GPA for junior year is a 3.5 However, my cumulative GPA will be somewhere around 2.6. I had a rocky freshman year, but I got my stuff together). My SAT scores will roughly in the 1750's. Math is my weakest subject, and my math level will be up to Algebra 2.
I emailed the admissions at JMU and they told me they didn't heavily look at GPA.

My ECs include: Theater,
Team Green (recycling club),
TAG (anti-drug group),
Heritage Club, (I went to France)
Across the River (newspaper).
I also dance at a private company.

I'm heavily involved in writing and I suppose you can call that my passion.
I've gone to college writing conferences and I've been published nationally and in the local newspaper.
My essay will most likely be the strongest aspect of my application.

I will be applying early action as well.
Any help/insight would be wonderful.

I wouldn’t be suprised if you were deferred Early Action as it’s much more competitive than regular, but with strong senior year midterm grades I’d say you have a decent chance at getting in. I think they do rely heavily on GPA if it’s a lingering issue- I’m instate and I know people with 2100+ SATs who didn’t get in because of Cs- but if they see that any bad performance was in the past they’ll probably look more favorably on you. Possibly retake the SATs to try to raise them a bit.

Thank you so much for your input! It really helps me out.

What is your cumulative gpa without junior year? I think you will need at least a 3.0 gpa to get into JMU, I highly doubt gpa doesn’t matter to them since their average is about a 3.5-3.6. Your sats will be good enough though I got in EA with similar scores just a bit higher. Just another point EA seems to be alot more competitive and most people are deferred to RD.

JMUs average GPA for incoming Freshman is in 3.7 - 3.8 range. Average SATs are from 1120 - 1240 for two score.
