Chance me PLEASE!

I am a junior at a public high school.
I take honor level courses, and get B's and A's. Senior year I will be taking AP English and AP Euro as well as Advanced Bio.
My GPA for junior year is a 3.5 However, my cumulative GPA will be somewhere around 2.6. (I had a rocky freshman year, but I got my stuff together). My SAT scores will roughly in the 1750's. Math is my weakest subject, and my math level will be up to Algebra 2.

My ECs include: Theater, Team Green (recycling club),
TAG (anti-drug group),
Heritage Club, ( I traveled to France for a homestay).
Across the River (newspaper).

I'm heavily involved in writing and I suppose you can call that my passion.
I've gone to college writing conferences and I've been published nationally and in the local newspaper.
My essay will most likely be the strongest aspect of my application.

I also dance at a private company.

I will be applying early decision as well.

Any help/insight would be wonderful.

Hanna, I would say that at this point, Gettysburg would be a big reach. Is the 2.6 GPA weighted or unweighted? What was your combined Reading and Math SAT score? (Gettysburg doesn’t really consider the Writing portion). If you look at the Common Data Set on the Gettysburg website, the middle 50% SAT score was 1230-1370 for last year’s freshmen. And our high school’s Naviance shows that students who were accepted to Gettysburg had an average SAT score of 1310 and a 3.99 (weighted) GPA.

Can you raise your SAT score a bit? or try the ACT - many students do much better on it. And you’ll have to somehow explain your rocky freshman year in high school and also heavily emphasize your steady improvement. Colleges may be willing to overlook a weak freshman year if you show a strong upward trend (which you have.)

Have you looked at Susquehanna University? It’s similar to Gettysburg, has a beautiful campus and a good writing program, but is a bit easier to get into than Gettysburg.

Try to apply to a broad range of schools so that next year you’ll have several options that you’d be happy with. Good luck!

Thank you so much!
I was sick for a big portion of my freshmen year, so I’ve recently gone to guidance and had some of the bad classes count as withdraws. It looks like my GPA when applying will be at least a 3.0 I also heard the ED acceptance rate is 72%
I’m hoping this well help my chances a bit.
Thank you, I will check out Susquehanna U! :)
