Chance me please

The University of Florida has always been my dream school (Go Gators!), but I consider Auburn my backup and it is running a close second… especially after reading comments on this website about both schools.

I will be a senior this year so keep in mind that I have a couple more opportunities to take the SAT. :)

So, what are my chances of being accepted by Auburn?
SAT: R-640 M-550 W-630 (1820)
GPA: 3.9 (Unweighted)
Extracurriculars: Varsity Softball (1-4), Varsity Golf (1-4), Yearbook-Assistant Editor, Foreign Language Club (1-4), SADD (2,4)
AP: US History, Calculus, Literature, Language/Comp (My school only offers 5 AP classes)
Top %15 in my class.
I live in Georgia and I am a girl.

If anyone will give me my chances for Florida I would appreciate those, too. The only thing I would add is that 3 of my family members, including my grandfather who is a member of several alumni clubs, graduated from UF.

Thank you in advance!!

For Auburn, consider taking the ACT. They are more ACT- oriented. If you prefer the SAT, no problem, they take either test. GPA is just fine, as are your solid extra curriculars. You shouldn’t have any problems getting in to AU. However, I would try and work on improving your math score, particularly for admission at Florida. Since you are OOS, getting in has gotten pretty tough. I would call admissions at Florida and ask what the latest OOS admit rate is, and how the legacy factors into their decision.

UF is basically a reach specially being OOS, they only take 3% OOS. Work hard this summer to bring your SAT scores up to ~2150. That should improve your chances. With a good essay and scores you’ll have you chance. What’s your major?

For Auburn you should be fine but need to increase your scores too to get access to the nice scholarships…

Good luck!

If I apply early at Auburn (fall) and take the SAT later (winter/spring) to improve my scores, will I still have access to those scholarships?

Priority date for scholarships is Dec 1st. Your scores really should be in by that date. If you only submit your SAT scores, Auburn will look at math and reading. Refer to the scholarships page to see the target scores for awards. I would also consider taking the ACT.

So would it be smarter to submit my application in early August for Auburn to have priority housing (and risk not being accepted because of my math score)… or wait until I have the chance to take the ACT/SAT again? Thank you so much for your help! I have no clue about this ‘stuff’.

Go ahead with early application. Send the re-take scores later. You may get in early with your current scores anyways. If, not you already have your stuff in except your new scores.

Don’t know if you want to play sports at UF–talk to the folks in the softball and golf programs (or have your coaches do it)–if you are good, it is a way to get into UF. My neighbor’s d was a walk-on for soccer and clinched a spot there. Also, consider Santa Fe CC for a year and then transfer if your grades there are outstanding. Legacy is important so you may have a chance if you improve in math.

Having said that, my D didn’t even consider UF–so much negative publicity among current students. She will be a freshman at AU and can’t wait.

I think your chances at getting into Aurburn is really high. They would be happy to accept you. Although if you’re looking at UF, than I would consider retaking the SAT.
