Chance me please?

I'm an asian female at a public high school that has been nationally recognized a couple of times. So in comparison I'm definitely in the top 10% and I would safely guess in the top 5%. The accepted average GPA at my school is a 4.55 and the SAT is a 2240... I plan on going into science (pre-med probably).

Weighted GPA: 4.59
-Most rigorous course except one level 2 class
-So I realize that I sucked sophomore year, but I'm hoping that my decent record junior year with all honors and APs will help...
-My english grade went up over the years and my junior english teacher is writing my recommendation, so I hope that helps...

Freshman year:
English: B+
Geometry: A-
Earth Science: A-
Ancient World History: A
Spanish: A-

Sophomore year (eek):
English: B+
Algebra 2: B+
Chemistry: B+
Modern World History: A-
Spanish: A

Junior year:
AP U.S. History: B+ but 770 SAT II score...
AP Biology: A-
Pre-Calculus: B+ but 780 SAT II score...
Spanish: A-
English: A

Unweighted GPA: 3.63
SAT: 760 (M)/740 (R)/ 740 (W)
SAT Subject Tests: 750 (Biology M)/ 770 (U.S. History)/ 780 (Math II)
APs: U.S. History (5)/ Biology (5) during junior year
-Taking 4 APs next year (Environmental Science, AB Calculus, Physics, and Psychology)

Extracurriculars:
-4 years of school's community service club
-3 years of Human Rights Club (1 year other officer position and current co-president)
-3 years of G.S.A (1 year officer position)
-National Honor Society
-4 years of a sport (3 varsity letters but nothing special)
-Church youth group
-Several church volunteer activities
-2 weeklong service projects in the city (as a sophomore and junior)
-1 year as math tutor

Bump…

I’d say you have a really good chance of getting in, although many people with similar criteria to yours have been either wait listed or denied I still feel with your extra ca. and class rank that you should be fine.

I’d have to disagree with ScrewSat…college applications are just so damn competitive these days.

As you predicted, your sophomore year is obviously going to be your Achilles heel in the application process. Still, your overall GPA is on the low side for WashU, and although you did well on the SAT II’s, I’m fairly certain that WUSTL will put far more weight on the actual transcript. Your SAT score is nothing special, though it’s within WashU’s range.

Extracurriculars are rather lacking, especially leadership positions. This is what you really need to set you apart from the other applicants, considering the sub-par GPA.

Write fantastic essays, get great recommendations…really show interest in the school. If I had to give you a number, I’d say 35 - 40% likelihood that you’ll get in. Sorry if that’s harsh, but it’s my opinion.

Feel free to chance me as well. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/1185344-chances-class-2016-a.html
