I really would like to attend UCI, but I think my stats are below average. What can I do to get in? What are my chances of getting into UCI at this point? What about UCSB, UCD? I'm really worried b/c I screwed up big time in my junior year. I tried to bring it up in the second semester but I couldn't. Please help!

PS: What if I make it into UCI for example, would that help the chances of my brother who wants to attend that school? He is 1 year younger than me.

Thank you!

I’m planning to major in BusAdmin or BusEcon. Which one should I put on my application or should I put undeclared? Generally, which one is easier to get into? If i put BusEcon, but want to change to BusAdmin how hard is that to do? Thanks again

For THIS YEAR, people with much lower stats than you got in. If it plays the same for next year, you’re probably in. I do not suggest applying undeclared and then changing later on-- I’m not sure about the Business majors but some could be impacted or are very hard to switch into.

You should be OK for UCSB.

I would suggest taking some SAT IIs. If you do well, it’ll help you,

Bump…Any other opinions? Thanks.

Change your name for starters. Getting accepted does not increases your brother’s chances.

I highly suggest taking SAT IIs. Maybe Math II and something else. Also I would attempt to get a 5 in Calc BC cuz itll put you way ahead of all the other freshman and you get to skip 2 classes during college, but if its too hard then thats ok. Business Admin is more competitive while Business Econ is alot more easier to get into, I would list Business Admin as first choice major and Business Econ as second choice, if they still give u that option on the UC application.

I wouldn’t stress so much if I were you. I had a 3.5 WEIGHTED GPA, 1740 SAT score and I STILL got into UCI and UCSC. Just write a really good essay and do some extra-curricular activities.

why would they need to change their name?

is it harder to get in if you declare a major when applying? will marking business admin and business econ on my app lower my chances?

Business admin would probably lower your chance as the slots are more limited. Business econ is a large major by nature so that should be no problem.

Difference between business admin and business econ at UCI can be summed up in a nutshell.

Business Admin - hard to get in but classes are less competitive/easier
Business Econ- Easy to get in but classes are more competitive/harder

Both lands you very similar internships and job positions and in the end after your first job most employers wont care which major your were in.

P.S Senior Business Econ major with a management minor, so I’ve taken courses from both sides. I must say i work a ton harder in my econ courses than management courses

@frenchfries11 Thanks for your reply. What do you mean by change my name?

@ehvyizcool Thanks so much! Should I still send my SAT II scores even if they are low or so so?

@sunnydelightxd Really?! What year did you get accepted? Did you have stellar ECs? You don’t know how happy your comment made me :)

@peterr86 So there’s really not much of a difference between Bus Admin and Bus Econ except what it emphasizes on? Then it’s better if i put Bus Econ as my primary and Bus Admin as my second choice?

Thanks so much for all your replies! It means a lot to me and I appreciate all your help!

If you’re given two choices to put for majors, then I would put BizAdmin as your primary and BusEcon as your secondary.

I have gone through the BusEcon –> transfer to BusAdmin route. I was actually accepted into BusAdm as a freshman, but dropped out of it without knowing that I won’t be allowed to return back. Long story.

I think you have a decent chance with first gen and low income after you improve your SAT. A downward trending GPA is not really good but you could also explain to uci if there were any hardships that caused this. I hope the reason is not because you hate homework as your username indicates. But anyway, good luck as well!
