Hey I'm an out of state senior and I have an 85 out of 100 weighted gpa throughout my first three years in high school with a 1690 sat score. What are my chances of getting in the film-video major at university park for all 4 years? I am planning on applying early this fall. Would it be possible to have a chance to get accepted if I apply early with good essays or no? Penn state is my first choice so I would really appreciate if someone can chance me? Thanks guys!

I also am in a BOCES tech class for film production and average an 89 in that class, if that helps, I would really appreciate if anyone can give me my chances of getting accepted at UP for this major (not the 2+2 plan), I know the gpa is subpar but I would like to know what I could do to improve my chances. Thank you!

And although I have a low weighted gpa my junior weighted gpa was a 91 out of 100 and my grades have been on an upward trend throughout my high school career. My sat scores were 570 for both math and writing and 550 for reading, and an 8 on my essay.

Bump…

Take a look at this bubble chart to give you an idea.

Your sat score is a little low for university park. I wouldn’t say you have zero chance, but I would try to get that score up by taking the september act and october sat before you apply. Would you consider any of the branch campuses?

I really dont wana go to the branch campuses for two years, I want to have the best college experience possible, but if I raise it to like a 1800+ would I have a chance to get in with those grades?

And if I apply early and for the summer session would that at least SLIGHTLY increase my chances or no? I’ve had health problems for the past two years which brought my grades down significantly in my freshman and sophomore year and limited my chance for any ECs or sports… but in my junior year I raised it significantly, i know that explanation won’t help much but if I put in my reasonings in a well written personal statement, will all this help increase my chances of acceptance to UP or no?

Bump…

Bumpity bump bump…

Applying early and for summer session would increase your chances, yes.
