Excellent recommendations

Visited Delaware and loved it! Hoping for some responses :)

no worries. you’ll get in. i had less ap’s, a little higher sat, and less activities and im a freshman right now. you’ll probably get some money, too.

liny94, Linymom makes a great suggestion. Take the act. There is only upside. It is a different type of test from sat. Sat is more like a iq test and act is more about what you have learned and retained from your curriculum. Bases upon your grades I suspect you could do better. I won’t repeat it hear, but if you look at my posts over the past couple of days you will see my explanation of what udel does with acts. Again, you will most likely get admitted, but if you can up your standardized test scores you might have a shot at honors or some merit aid.

I’m not sure I think you’re a candidate for honors unless you bring up the test scores. In fact, I’d say definitely not. I know UD prioritizes GPA and course rigor, so you are good there for admission, but being from New York, I don’t think you’re a sure thing.

Chance me please,
GPA weighted, 3.8125
ACT: composite 25, reading 29, math 26, science 23, english 20
SAT:(1100/1600) 570 reading, 530 math (I know that these are very low but i am taking the test again October 1st and i am expecting to improve by atleast 40 points in both sections)
I have taken AP english junior year as well as ap environmental. I recieved a 3 and 4 on the ap test’s respectively… This year i am taken AP calc ab along with AP human geography. I have taken numerous honors course and or college prepatory the school only weights ap courses.

I am a male from MD i am also applying to umcp (far reach), penn state, uconn, ohio state and a few safety schools

the range for act scores for u del is 24-29… this site is full of people who think only those who can score above a 30 on the act or 2100 on the sat are admitted to schools…

Bear in mind that OOS students generally need higher stats than Delaware residents; the latter are admitted with lower scores, which drives down the range. That said, my S got in with stats very similar to ayogimmethatslap’s, but that was two years ago. It’s definitely getting more difficult with each passing year.

As point of reference, my DD got in with ACT 26 and WGPA of 3.6. She entered in the fall of 2010 (current sophomore at UD). She didn’t get any $$. Also, note that if you get WL, they have taken a lot off the WL the past two years.

ayogimmethatslap - as another point of reference, she got deferred from UMDCP (admitted to Freshman Connection) -not sure competition of OOS vs IS.

Per my screen name, we are from Long Island, NY.

I think the state of origin is a huge factor. Students from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland face much tougher competition. A student with the poster’s stats from, say, West Virginia, would have a better chance.

LINYMOM makes a good point about the WL. For the incoming freshman class 2010-2011, there were 2,215 wait listed. 767 accepted a place. 591 were admitted and 186 WL enrolled out of that.

However, it is growing more competitive every year so UD can afford to be picky. I would also venture to say that better chances of getting $ ride with those who get into the Honors Program. My D got into the Honors Program a year ago. She’s currently a sophomore. Many of her NJ classmates did not get accepted into UDel and were pretty disappointed.

Regarding ayogimmethatslap - I rather like his chances. First he has an above average GPA, he has taken a good amount of AP classes and honors classes. He has shown leadership skills as a team captain and has some nice EC’s. He could improve his SAT/ACT but there are some kids that just don’t test well and I think alot of schools recognize this.(It certainly wouldn’t hurt to retake them again and try to improve them) Plus the fact, he is a boy. And I think most schools try to keep the girl:boy ratio somewhat even…(which it is not at UD). Personally I like his chances. But its just my opinion and I wouldn’t bet the farm on anything I say!!! Best of luck to you though.

ayogimmethatslap - I think Penn State is a far reach as well, they are numbers driven. My son was accepted SUMMER session @ PSU University Park 2011 with 4.13 weighted gpa/3.93 unweighted, and 1310/1600 and 1940/2400 SAT.

If you bring up your SAT I think you have a good shot at UDEL, UCONN, and Ohio State. But that’s just my opinion based on my son’s acceptances last year. He is currently a UDEL freshman studying Chemical Engineering.

Ayog:
I would be very surprised if you were not accepted at UD due to your great HS stats/rigor of courses/GPA. Actually your SAT scores are also competivitive for general admission to UD (not high enough for the Honors Program though). Unless you are applying for the most competitive majors at UD (chemical engineering, nursing) you should be fine (and you probably would have at least a shot even for these majors). Best wishes to you.
