In general, your stats look good. But you’re SAT CR and W are very low. You say you’ve been in the US for 5 years? How proficient in English are you? Since you have an 800 in SAT II Chinese, then it seems like you’re smart enough to have done well on the SAT CR and W had you been fluent in English. I would suggest taking TOEFL.

i dont know, my english skills are alright. they arent horrible, it just that i hate spend hours on vocabs you know? i guess i am a slacker? because i would rather spend hours on watching physics tutorials or calculus stuffs instead of boring vocabs

does michigan take TOEFL? i am so white washed that i didnt even know TOEFL exists thanks stem

haha dude. I kind of feel the same way, but seriously, having a strong vocabulary is important. You’ll learn to enjoy a lot of other things beyond math/science…like catching a subtle pun while reading a newspaper. Even many science articles are heavy in non-science vocabulary. And since you might study business, vocabulary is huge in that field (at least one of the parts of being successful in it).

Woahh…so sorry about post #5! I did not realize I linked you to the graduate policy.

But yes, they do actually require TOEFL for all speakers of English as a second language
this only applies to you if you are considered such. But keep in mind, they still require seeing your ACT/SAT scores in all cases. In no case is TOEFL a substitution for either.

I also just noticed your NASA internship. Depending on the extent of your involvement in that, I think that’ll help your chances.

But really, you shouldn’t take my opinions too seriously. I’m just one of you (a nervous high school senior in the application process) with absolutely no experience in college admissions. Chance me threads undermine the admission process. And they’re a bit paradoxical in that we ask a question to those as clueless, if not less since they don’t even know much about you more than numbers, as we are. And when I say, “we” that means, yes, I’ve even posted my own chance me thread. I did it when I was new (at least after spending some time away) to this site. I saw that everyone was doing it, and so I did it to see what I would get. In retrospect, I think its kind of ridiculous, and I wish I could delete it.

Only you should decide on your chances and whether you should apply, and only the admission committee of whichever school you apply to will be able to determine your fit. Only they will see your essays (which tell a lot about your context), your teacher recommendations, and the rest of your application. Here is an appendix http://www.admissions.umich.edu/prospective/prospectivefreshmen/Template_Rating_Sheet-REV2009-10.pdf from the UMich that includes all factors which may play a role in their decision on your admission.

I tell you this because I see you are new to CC, and you may feel that chance me threads have even a bit of legitimacy in them and possibly get discouraged if someone says you dont have a chance or if people dont respond to your thread. Youll notice that actual college reps/admission officers never comment on these threads (expect when saying that no one can really chance you) because they cannot make informed decisions themselves w/o knowing everything about you, and theyre the adcoms.

This is a great site
I mean w/o it you would not have come here and found out TOEFL exists, but dont take chance me threads too seriously.

I apologize for the semi-rant here, but please take what I am telling you into consideration.
