Chance me, please? :)

Hello! I'm looking for my chances, I'm applying to all of the following:

UF (In state, dream school)
Berkeley
NYU
FSU
UGA

GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Rank: N/A. Home schooled.
AP Scores: AP Human Geography - 4
AP Courses: 8 (AP Bio, AP Marine, AP Lang, AP Statistics, etc.)
Honors Courses: 11
Senior Year Schedule: AP Econ, AP Lit, Comprehensive Law, TA, Spanish 4, an Honors Science Course (I'm about to transfer to public school, schedule isn't set in stone. Feel free to recommend anything! :))

Test Scores:
SAT - 1800 (Though I skipped 1/4 of the questions. Taking it again in the morning.)
ACT- 27

ECs:
Animal Shelter Volunteer - 200+ Hours

FBLA - 1 year.

Honors:
Nothing I can think of. Home schooled. :(

Hook: First generation college.

State: Florida
Gender: F
Race: White
Income Bracket: ~24k. I'm pretty sure that's below the poverty line?

I can try to chance back. :)

EDIT;
I'll post my thoughts on chances as well, and maybe you guys can tell me if I'm right/wrong? :)

UF - Maybe an okay shot. GPA I guess is great, worried about ECs and test scores. Maybe senior schedule could be better?
Berkeley - Low probability. Test scores.
NYU - Low probability. Test scores.
FSU - Shoe in?
UGA - Shoe in, assuming they don't favor in-state like UF.

bumping…

Bumping again.

Bumping yet again.

No one? Really? :(

I say shoot for them all. You have good SAT scores, and a decent background in extra activities. Have some faith and hopefully you’ll get in to UF =)

Curious as to how home schooling will be received…I’d say it is imperitive for you to increase your SAT as the test score is the fairest way to compare you to other students.
I’d say your chances are good for FSU…UF might be tough. Are you considering any of the other state schools? How about New College?

Thanks guys. :)

By the time I apply, I’ll be at a public school, so I’m hoping it won’t be an issue for UF. I retook the SAT Saturday and feel really, really confident about it. I really don’t want to go to school in-state, aside from UF, so I haven’t really considered many other schools. I did look at New College as my cousin goes there. Didn’t really like the environment and it was wayyy too small for me. I’m also planning on majoring in business and would like a school with some sort of a reputation, not crazy about its liberal arts focus.

I can’t image the adjsutment someone would have going from being home schooled to a University with over 50,000 students. Definitely spend time on campus to get a true sense of the atmosphere. Best of luck.

NYU and Berkeley are definitely a reach, but I say go for it!
You are definitely in the ball park for the other schools so dont worry. Your ECs are very impressive, but I would definitely look into taking the SAT again to try to improve (ideally break 2000)

Awesome, thank you!
I’m hoping I broke 2000 on saturday. Felt way too easy. I hope the test won’t be curved down too much.

I heard it was realllly easy from some people but I also heard it was really hard from others, which indicates a regular curve… therefore dont worry!
If you get a chance, chance me too please!

Anyone else? :)

SATs aren’t great, and 4.0 GPA doesn’t mean much when you’re homeschooled. I had a 4.0 when I was homeschooled too. School is harder, trust me (and I’m one of the good students.) But your ECs are pretty good. If you can bring up your SATs, I think you’d have a chance at all of them.

Hmm. How should I put it. I’m not really home schooled in the sense that a parent is in charge of my education, just that I am self-teaching at home. I’m earning my credits through an online high school sort of deal. It’s just as difficult as public school was and I actually have to be disciplined enough to get up in the morning and do it. And like I said, I’ll be in a public school before I apply. I’ve earned the credits just like any normal kid.

Bumping again.

I think you have a realistic idea of where you stand. UGA will be similar to UF w/r/t in state applicants though.

You have a good shot at UF. Both your SAT and ACT are in range. I think your ECs are really interesting and show that you’ve put your time into activities you’re interested in rather than just going through the motions by joining every club known to man. No, you don’t have the long laundry list of ECs usually seen around these parts but it is truly quality over quantity.

I hope you’re going into CS! PHP knowledge…impressive.

Thank you, drg0nz0.
That was somewhat comforting to hear.

Wasn’t planning on CS. I do love it, but law is my biggest passion. Intended on majoring in Entrepreneurship or some other business related study then into law school or even perhaps even going for JD/MBA.
