My essay needs some work, but it will be improved.

Where are you from? If there is still time, you may want to take the ACT. But unless there is something you haven’t mentioned, I don’t think you have a chance. I’m sorry.

Your SAT scores are well below that for most OOS applicants accepted to UD-I suspect that plays a large role in zoosermom’s assessment. Your GPA is very good, however, and if you have taken Honors/AP classes and done well in them you might still have at least a chance. Also what is your class rank? UD is somewhat unique among major top notch universities in that UD gives greater significance in making admission decisions to rigor of HS courses(and grades in them)/GPA/class rank as compared to SAT scores (but they are not irrelevent). If you have not taken AP/Honors courses then I would agree that you probably have little chance for acceptance if you are from OOS. Just my thoughts. Best wishes to you.

I am the top 20% of my class, and i am taking 3 ap courses this year (chem, world history, and lang) and I have had all honors courses since 6th grade year.

i did take the ACT, but i only got a 22 and that is very poor.

Oblivia,

I would try to get an interview when you visit the school. While other comments about your low SAT scores are correct, people do overcome the odds. I think you need to explain your low scores, and make a case for yourself. Don’t leave the decision process merely to the numbers. Market yourself…

Socaldad42,

Thank you! I will get an interview. I’m actually working on the supplemental essay explaining my low math grades right now.

I would agree with Socaldad42 that you should schedule an interview. I also feel that you should try and send in your application as soon as possible even though UD does not have rolling admissions (I feel that UD will get an even larger number of applications this year as compared to last year, including at least a slight increase in applicants from PA-due to the PSU scandal). Your very good class rank, GPA, and rigor of your HS classes should improve your chances. Try to get A’s in your classes this semester and send them to UD as soon as they are available. UD loves to see HS students who challenge themselves and are able do well in honors/ap courses. This indicates to them that the applicant is more likely to be able to handle the rigorous courses at UD. There are Dean’s List students at UD with SAT scores similar to yours who had shown UD that they were able to challenge themselves and handle tough courses while in HS. Alternately, I personally have known some prior applicants whose HS courses, gpa, and class rank were below yours, had SAT scores over 2000, and were not accepted to UD. Some of these students were actually very indignant that UD had the nerve not to accept them with their exceptional SAT scores, even though they basically just “coasted” thru HS. So all is not lost. While certainly no one can say for sure how UD will rate an applicant, I believe you do have a reasonable shot at being accepted. Best wishes to you.

Thank you so much for your input! I have a visit tomorrow and will schedule an interview for next week since the interview time is the same time during my visit.
