I think you have a good shot - test scores and GPA are very strong, ECs are solid too. You are definetly a competitive applicant, but I would still characterize Brown as a reach for you. Make sure you have some backup schools that you’d be happy with. Good luck!

Please chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1234291-chance-alaskan-top-schools.html</a></p>

Thanks for the reply penguinito22
I forgot to mention that im on varsity track and field, honor society and am a tutor

Hello mercurialvapors, your stats and ec’s look great to me. I’m just a teeny tiny bit concerned for your physics. President of physics club and a 3 on an AP exam is pretty suspicious. Nevertheless, the majority of your profile makes you a strong applicant for Brown. Good luck!!

solid chance, though your rank could potentially hold you back

Thanks, how good does being captain of the varsity basketball team look on the application?

AWESOME SCORES!!
EC’s are too weak…
Therefore, it is hard to say whether you will get in…

Ugh i dont like these replies…:(

Good chance. Be sure to say what sets you apart from the norm in your essays,

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1238066-if-i-accomplish-will-i-get.html</a></p>

Thanks collegeluva101, anyone else? :)

I think your ec’s are too weak for Brown’s standards.

Im getting very mixed opinions about my ec’s…two varsity sports (captain in one of them), club president, 400 hours of community service is weak???

Don’t stew and fret about your “chances” now. Your ap is in! Only thing left now is the interview, and it really doesn’t play a major role. Just relax and enjoy it and be yourself! And of course, start working on the other applications just in case, so they won’t be all “last minute” if Brown’s decision is not what you wanted to hear. And don’t trust all what you hear about “chances”, Brown is very unpredictable!

Ok thanks brownalumparent im so neevous though!!!

well… Sure, playing varsity sports is good. But unless you’re very good at them (state-level at least), then how would that be very impressive to colleges? Many students play varisty-level sports, and I’m sure many apply to Brown. What would make you stand out from the crowd in terms of sports (because that’s what I’m guessing is your biggest EC)? Have you won any state-level awards or anything? Or better yet, regional or national level awards?

Also, being president of a club is a dime a dozen among ivy league applicants, so don’t think that’s going to help much at all. Admittedly, the 400 community service hours are impressive, but again, many people have that and more.
I don’t want to be a downer, and I wish you luck in your application!

Another quick note: class rank is somewhat low for Brown’s standards, and do you have any academic extracurriculars?

We were league champs, county champs and regional champs and im the captain of the team…i was a member of many clubs, tutored, in honor society and was on varsity track and field for all 3 years

what other clubs were you in?

Interact volunteer club
Student gov
Class gov
Physics club
History club
Spanish club
