Just a midnight bump…

Sigh I applied Harvard SCEA. Here goes:

•Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): USNCO Finalist, USABO Semis, Quiz Bowl top-10 in nation (ranked really high), Did well at a few national debate tournaments (no berth at TOC), National Spanish Exam gold X3, 3 medals from National Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl State All-star, JETS TEAMS top-10, lots of state and regional stuff.
Subjective:
•Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Quiz Bowl (Captain 4 years), Student Government (chairman), Science Olympiad (President), National Honor Society (President), JETS (Founder/President), Debate, Spanish Honor Society (President), a few more that don’t matter/didn’t put on my application

•Summer Activities: Run a camp for disadvantaged children out of a middle school for the last few years, did some teaching at a school in India, local Governor’s School
•Essays: Common App: good, not great.; extracurricular: meh. It wasn’t bad, but I’m not completely satisfied; Harvard supplement: I liked it, others liked it, it’s definitely unique…
•Teacher Recommendation: Generically great, will reiterate extracurriculars, etc…
•Counselor Rec: Good, I hope, I’m a student aide to the counselors - they like me.
•Additional Rec: - none -
•Interview: - will happen eventually -

I’ve got this weird sense of confidence in myself and it that I’ll fail… It’s strange and confusing.

In all honesty, I think that you have an extremely good chance. Given the information that you’ve provided, I think that you have a better chance than most people here. You mentioned that your essay was good, not great; I’d work on that. There’s nothing else that I can suggest for you to improve on. You seem to have a great chance, good luck!

Chance me back, please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1237778-what-my-chances-getting-into-nyu.html

Thanks, anyone else?

bump, thanks!

Bump. Thanks ahead of time.

Perfect test scores, lots of service, great ECs, I think you have a great chance, but make sure you get that interview in.

Thanks! I almost forgot, I just had my interview yesterday and it went really well. The interviewer told me that I was one of the best applicants that he’s ever interviewed so that’s a good sign, eh. Beyond that, does anyone know of any good mid-tier schools that give out a lot of merit aid, not that Harvard’s not great and all, but since there’s just a small chance?

Bump…

Trolololol.

Ok Testing. Real men take SAT >:). Ain’t perfect unless its a 2400 on SAT. Good leadership, good testing, good extracurricular.

50% accept rate if you were white (Harvard statistics for 2400’s are 50%). Perfect ACT is like 30% accept rate but I gave you some brownie percentages because of USNCO and Bio. What do you expect? THREE times more 36’s than 2400’s!! This probably goes down because of Affirmative Action. So you got like a match chance >25% at these schools. You will probably end up in a top 5.

I say you have decent chances at Harvard.

“Harvard statistics for 2400’s are 50%”
Interseting. I know few kids who had perfect scores but none of them got into Harvard.

In the end you will have very nice options from top 10 colleges.

Good luck to you

Thanks everyone. If you don’t mind my asking, what’s a “decent” chance percentage-wise?

And bump…

Any other responses?

Bump…

Bump…

bump…

Pretty low. You’re not that special, plain and simple.

^Haha, thanks. That’s more of what I expected to hear. What do you suppose that I could talk to remedy that, especially when applying to other selective schools? And do you have an approximate percentage?
