SAT IIs: World History 730, Math 2 and Physics (don't know yet, finding out tonight)
Already had an interview - it was good. the guy told me that he hopes I get in because he thinks I'm a great fit.
GPA: 3.96 unweighted. Taking all possible hardest courses at school. Will finish high school with 8 APs, got 5s already on World History, Psychology, and Chinese (LOL alright I know I'm Chinese)

school representative of youth fundraiser that builds schools in rural Asia
lifeguard/swimming instructor - taught swimming this summer (volunteer)

i was told my common app one is great, BUT on my activity paragraph i spelt sevel instead of SEVEN (omg how much will this hurt me ............fml)
Teacher Recs: great
Counsellor Recs: great, she read it to me lol

what else am I missing..

It’s hard too see your focus. I always like to think of an application as a narrative: you have to have a moving plot. You > your interests + your involvement > your major. I cannot discern from the information you’ve given that you want to pursue engineering. Your ECs dont match up with your major either (which is usually a deciding factor once youre up above the 3.9, 2200 range). This might weaken your app. You test scores are fine, and sevel? You’re screwed. Just kidding, it’s not that huge of a deal as long as you get your point across and if they can infer you mean seven, you should be fine. Overall, an average chance, but schools like this like to see initiative and drive, and I just can’t seem to connect your extracurricular work with your major, because they love to see people who know they are interested in engineering (enough to do it after school/out of school) before they admit them. That’s all my personal opinion, though. I would say your test scores and gpa keep you in the running, and frankly (like with the rest of us) the rest is up in the air, I would even go as far as saying it’s a crapshoot considering admissions these days. Good luck!

@columbiafan: thank you so much for your reply. good luck to you too! (assuming that you’re an applicant also) haha, the crapshoot part is so true. I’ve heard too many rumors/weird stories. but i have another question: does being female and applying to engineering help?

i know i didnt include in the post but I do participate in lego robotics and i wrote one of my essays on it. it’s nothing leadership/awards though :S

Anything that shows your interest in your major is a big boost, so the Lego robotics is a good thing.

And females getting a boost in engineering is hard to say. I would say the demand for female engineering students is higher than that for males, and I’m sure they would look at you in a different light, but I have no idea how much it will impact decisions (partly because I am not much involved in the engineering realm, I’m applying to CC for political science haha)

ahh alright thanks! my interviewer majored in poli sci and he made it sound so interesting. also he made new york sound too good to be true. i know the engineer acceptance rate is better at other schools i just dont know if that is the case for fu. anyways mucho gracias! have a good day

I believe the Fu acceptance rate is slightly higher than that of CC. No problem!

I think you have a pretty good chance. You have a smaller number of ECs, but they look like they are ones you spend a lot of time on. Your objective stats are really good. So I would say you have an above average chance.
