stupid questiion there almost no way u wont get in

^^ This guy has no idea what he’s talking about…

You do have a good shot with that SAT score, but your GPA and AP scores aren’t great. I’m not saying you can’t get in, but Michigan would be a low reach.

I think it’s likely, but not even close to a safety. Maybe 60% chance. Everything is strong except your GPA is low and you havnt had that that many hard classes. Also, 9th grade does count towards your GPA at U of M, the way you wrote it im assuming you didnt include it; if that lowers it even further I’d say its a long reach, even with the connections.

your gpa is low for michigan and the fact that your oos is going to hurt you a lot. i’d say about a 40% chance

So if including my Freshman year grades lowers my GPA to a 3.56, how bad is it? I actually had fine grades that year except for C’s in Honors Geometry with a sadistic teacher who gave two A’s to a class of 30. I do have a very good upward trend (~3.2 Freshman year to ~3.8 Junior year)…hopefully my extracurriculars make up for the low GPA? Thoughts?

they very well could make up for it, but its not certain. I’d say its probably about a 50-50 or a little higher. Another problem you might have is the 10-20% ranking, Michigan prefers top ten percent, but this depends on how big your class size is. If you have a small number, the 10-20% won’t hurt, but if there are like 500 kids in your class, meaning at least 50, probably closer to 75 kids are more highly rated than you, that would hurt.

Well I go to a huge urban public school (my senior class is about 900 kids), and the administration doesn’t rank students in any way. It’s complicated by the fact that there are various small schools and an IB program (which I’m not in), so even if they ranked the entire student body it’s not as if the GPAs of kids in different programs would mean anything relative to one another. I guessed about the top 10-20%, but I do know that of the kids applying to Michigan, about half have better stats than me, and the other half worse. I’d say my SATs are higher than most others, GPA is very slightly lower, and my extracurriculars are way above average. I’m hoping it works out! Michigan really seems like the place to be…
