Chance me please...

Hello. I just want to see if I have even a remote chance for Yale RD. I attend a public school in NY (Long Island). Can you please estimate my chances?

*I was rejected from UPenn ED

-Asian (Indian) immigrant. Came here in 1st grade. Still don't have a green card (considered international and have to apply for some financial aid)
-98.28 uw gpa, 104.18 w gpa
-ranked 4/546
-32 comp act: 33 e, 27 m, 33 r, 35 s, 9 essay
-2110 sat (one sitting): 710 math, 720 cr, 680 w, 9 essay
-sat 2: 730 world history, 710 math 1, 550 french (really bad, so I don't think that I am going to send them)
-took 12 ap's over the course of high school (taking AP calc BC, AP lit, AP bio, AP french, AP comp gopo, AP eco this year)
-4 in us, 5 in world, 5 in chem, 3 in stats, 4 in physics b
-leadership (this year): sec gen for Model UN, induction chair in science hs, vice pres of French hs, vice pres of math team
-EC's: nhs, bollywood dance (assistant choreographer and finalist in national competition), family responsibilities (helping brother with hw/teach him Hindi), science research (individual and in lab), environmental club (team placed in top 10 in county for 3 years in a row)
-100+ hours of volunteering (tutoring and at hospital)
-plus psat commended student, Intel ISEF finalist in 2010 and 2011, 1st place at lots of regional/state competitions, applied to STS this year, yale science and engineering award

Letters of rec: counselor-really likes me so should be good but might be kind of generic, teachers-research teacher (known me since freshman year, also advisor of club) and english teacher (articulate and personal), additional-from lab PI
Supplementary material: research abstracts and papers
Common app essay-about how I struggled to find a balance between indian and american cultures (read by teachers/couselor-said it was good)
Still have to do the Columbia supplement but I have been told that I have a unique style of writing so it should be pretty good (will have it proofread by at least 4/5 people before submitting it)

Hoping to major in biochem...definitely doing research

Your SAT scores are rather low, as well as some of your AP scores, but you have some cool ECs (Bollywood dance). Being an Intel finalist should be a good boost and also the Yale science and engineering award. I think you have a shot.

yea definitely being an Intel finalist and the Yale award will give you a boost. It doesn’t really matter how much you do (though they can only help). It’s what you make of them that counts. good luck

intel isef finalist doesn’t count for much. same for yale sci and eng award (given at local sci fair). sts finalist (not even semi) could help a bit. yale has not admitted better scores and better science record in the past. surprised penn rejected you ed; that may signal a possible problem in some part of ur application. barring good essays, your chances are below average.

EDIT: I found out that I am an Intel STS semi-finalist…does that increase my chances at all???

Yes, of course it will help.

Also, don’t listen to itsme123; you are certainly not in the bracket of people with “below average chances.” Just bear in mind that international application is extremely competitive. I mean, so is regular application. I’d say you have as good of a chance as anyone, especially with the supplementary research.

What you should do now is log off this site. Nobody’s “chance” information will help you because they are just guessing, they are not admissions officers. Best of luck with all your apps  . And remember, it’s not the school that matters, it’s the person.

of course everyone’s guessing. even ad com’s can’t give a good estimate, until they review yours and others credentials.

yes, intel semi is a plus; finalist will be a big plus (duh!).

you should update yale about your semifinal status now (or wait until 25th to know if you make finalist).

good luck both at intel and yale.

Thanks everyone!! : )
