Applying this year from CCC. Transferring 2013

Applying to:
UCB
UCLA
UCSB (going to TAG)
UCSD

Current Transfer GPA: 3.1
By the end of Fall: 3.4 or 3.5

Major: Spanish

Completed all pre-reqs and IGETC

URM with household income of $70,000
Somewhat of an upward trend of grades

ECs: Tutoring 8th grader literacy at local library since April 2011. 16 hours a week.
Started taking community college courses my junior and senior years of high school. I am currently 18 and I'll be 19 in November.
Planning: work experience, summer internship or UCB open to public class, involvement in clubs

How do you not know your end of Fall GPA yet? Have grades not been posted? And, if not, are you expecting straight As, or close to it?

If you end up with a 3.4 or 3.5 as your final transferable GPA, you’ll have a pretty good chance at UCLA and lower. Last year’s average admitted GPA was 3.42. . . .

I doubt Cal is all that much more competitive, so, still, if you get a 3.5, I’d say you will have a good enough chance getting in there as well.

^
He’s transferring next year. (first sentence of his post man ^^)

UCLA
2011 average percentage of admittance for spanish majors are 59%, with a average GPA of 3.42. So I think you definitely have a good chance there.

Not sure about the rest, GPA is low for UCB but it helps that you have TAP.

Focus on your spring and fall grades instead of worrying about admissions.

@briceies Ya I’m applying this year and transferring next year. Hopefully by the end of fall I’ll have 3.5 GPA or at least close to it. Im worrying a little because each year the UC system receives a bigger number of applicants. Thanks for the response

@stephen91 I’m glad to hear I have a good chance at UCLA. Thank you for the response. UCB will be a reach for me but hopefully TAP will get me in. UCSB will be my safety school since I’ll use the TAG. Your right I should be focusing on my current semester but like I said above I’m worrying a little. Thanks again

i dont think anyone can seriously rate until after transfer decisions end for fall 2012. the FAQ page is so outdated i dont know why it’s still a sticky.

I think you have a decent shot at UCSD. Their average transfer GPA is around 3.3 I believe so do your best to get yours up. And if you TAG with SB you should get in as long as you get at least a 3.2. Cal and UCLA might be a reach but idk how impacted Spanish is. Good luck!

Do you have a shot? no. a 3.1 is too low for UCLA and UCB. last years overall average GPA of ppl that applied was a 3.4, ppl ACCEPTED was a 3.7
And just b/c you’re planning to get all A’s to raise ur GPA to a 3.5, does not mean that you will. The thing is, ur GPA being what it is gives me no indication that you suddenly will wake up and just start cranking out straight A’s…you may have a shot at UCSB if you can get a 3.2 before applying for TAG. good luck

Can you clarify what you mean by UCB open to public class? Summer class? Regular semester class that you are able to register for through extension? Or is it a class that is only taught through their extension program (aka, it’s not really a UCB class)?

The first two will definitely boost your transcript if you do well (that is what I am doing). The latter will only help if taking the easy, self paced online classes (which most of them are) during a regular semester will allow you to complete extra units with As, boosting your GPA (I am also doing this).

@whatshalli
you should look into signing a TAG to a UC. I believe Poli-Sci is impacted at UCLA/UCB so a 3.2 is kind of low for those schools, but you have a good chance at many other UCs. UCI is definitely rising in popularity, look into them…

Since I wrote this post I’ve raised my GPA to 3.4 so not all hope is lost and I still have a semester left. The reason I don’t have a high GPA is because the last two years of my high school life I was concurrently attending community college. Taking high school and college courses at the same time was not that easy. Thus resulting my low GPA, but since I graduated I’ve seen an upward trend and slowly but surely raising my GPA. So hopefully this Berkeley program could raise my chances.
