Hi,
I'm currently a junior in high school. James Madison University as f now is by far my top choice, along with Binghamton university and uconn as close seconds. My unweighted gpa is 3.4, and my class rank is 126/287. I've been in both choirs my school offers available to men for as long as possible, I'm going to soon be the founder of te chess club, I confounded the coed acapella group at my school, and this year I was the only singer admitted from my school into the All State music festival. Last year I participated in the new England music festival, and this year I'll have done the eastern regional music festival, new England, and all state (all auditioned). I'll be doing the same ones next year as well. Last year, I participated in the east Lyme regional theatre's (the local community theatre group) production of children of Eden, and I'll be auditioning for a role this year for the show they put on as well. I did half a year of drama my freshman year as a member of the props department, and next year I'll be auditioning for the musical they put on. I may be getting a job this summer babysitting; I'm not sure though. I'd like to major in English and eventually teach it at a high school or college level, and I'd like to maybe minor in vocal performance or something music related. I don't know if this helps, but I've been told that my school is pretty competitive. I plan on having at least 2 really good recommendation letters, and I can get more if needed. Ive not taken the sat yet, but I plan on preparing myself extremely hard. If jmu isn't a good fit, I'd appreciate some other recommendations, and I'd like to know if I'm on the right path. According to Naviance, 7/8 people from my school who applied got in, and the average gpa for them was a 3.24. I'm pretty nervous about all of this cause I know it's a competitive school and my ranks not very good and I'm freaking out over the sats. Let me know. One last thing: I'm taking ap music theory right now, and I plan on taking ap gov, ap English, and possibly ap phsychology next year.

Also if there are some strategies for studying for the sats, theyd b most welcome

Also, forgot to mention I live in Connecticut. Thanks :)

I also really liked JMU and UCONN, so I applied and got accepted to both schools. You have really good EC’s, but I would just suggest working to pull up your GPA a little. You would have a chance to make it with your GPA now, but you never know how many people are going to apply and how good their credentials will be. Also, definitely take the AP classes, and take as many as is reasonable. That will definitely make your application look more attractive.

As far as tips for the SAT, I personally took one of the prep courses for the SAT. I know they are expensive, but it helped me a lot. I started with a 1760, and after the course I had a 2030. I know all people don’t have those drastic changes, but I felt the course taught me a lot and helped me to understand the SAT more and strategies to answering questions. If you don’t want to pay the money, you could buy an SAT prep book from any bookstore. Those are very helpful as well and we worked with one in my prep class.

JMU is a great school, the atmosphere is awesome. People are in general very welcoming and helpful. I went down and took a tour and I really loved the school. Also, my best friend’s sister goes there and she absolutely loves it. There is always something to do.

It looks like you are within range for JMU although your class rank and GPA are a bit low according to the common set data for JMU.

FYI – JMU does not have a minor in vocal performance, ans it is difficult for students who are not in the music or musical theatre programs to secure private voice lessons for credit. There are group voice classes non-majors can take, and any student at JMU may register for the non-auditioned choir, or audition for the auditioned choirs. There are also many student directed acappella groups on campus. The music minor options at JMU are Music, Music Industry, and Jazz.

The Chess club thing might not happen cause I thinks someone beat me to it, do I’ll just join it. Also I’m not so sure the acapella group is gonna pull through. However I did recently join my churchs choir. Just FYI lol. Thanks for your help those who responded !
